Has anyone ever heard of Horton, if yes, where is it?! Sarah

I expect there's more than one, but the one I've heard of is near Bradford.

Theres one in Surrey

My AA road atlas of the British Isles gives 13 places named Horton. I can't see why you are unable to find one.

Is the one in Surrey anywhere near to Southwark? Its not on Parloc, and I'm famed for being rubbish at geography! Sarah

If none of these are the place, there is somewhere called Horton Kirby - near Darenth in Kent. Just a thought. Jan :-))

There is a Horton in Surrey. It lies between Epsom and West Ewell. Probably the best people to speak to about where it used to be would be Epsom Council. (Archives or Libraries Dept)

As you haven't exactly told us what you are seeking, I don't know if this helps but. There is a Hopton STREET in Southwark. Not far from Waterloo Station.

The Horton that I know is in Epsom,Surrey. There used to be a very large old hospital there. Sheila

Thanks everyone, It was regarding an old (National) newspaper article about a burglary comitted possibly against one of my lot, who lived in the Southwark area. The burlary was committed against a dwelling in Horton. As I am not particularly well travelled or good at knowing where anywhere is, and after googling it, and checking parloc, I thought it would be a good idea to ask for you kind folk to assist me. I know if I was trawling a map, I wouldn't know my Surrey from my Sussex or my Berkshire! This explains why I get lost everytime I go anywhere...! Thanks for all the interest/suggestions. Sarah

It sounds more like a dwelling in Hopton Street. Have you seen the article yourself, or could it possibly have been mistranscribed?

Then it would suggest that the Horton near Devizes in Wiltshire is the correct one.

Salisbury would have jurisdiction if it was the Devizes Horton. How does Southwark come into it?

One in South Gloucestershire, just up the road from me. Its got the oldest continually inhabited house in England in it - Horton Court. Lisa
