and without looking, do you know who the witnesses were on your own Marriage Certificate. I didn't, so had a look, whilst looking I discovered my age is incorrect. If they can't get it right in 20th Century, what hope is there for the 19th? M. Steer

Yes I do as a matter of fact, but I know my address is wrong on mine. (Don't tell anyone but I gave my bridesmaid's address so that I could get married in the church I wanted to). Do you think I could use that as a get out clause if I wanted to!!! :-) (maybe I'm not really married after all !!!!). Kath. x

Miriam Report 15 Aug 2005 18:25

Yes I know who my witnesses were, and both of them were unrelated to either of us. Our ages and professions and other info are perfectly correct. But can anyone remember the number on the register of there marriage. I can as we were the first to get married at the church we got married at. Our number is ....1. Can anyone else out there say that, for any of their relatives. P.s we only got married 10 years and 5 months ago. YOurs Miriam Abbott

I remember mine no problem. Doesn't everybody use their best man and chief bridesmaid? Beth :) Kath - which church was that then? You can't have been a regular anyway or the vicar would have known where u lived!!

Margaret Report 15 Aug 2005 18:47

My chief bridesmaid was only 12 yrs. old. M. Steer

Merry Report 15 Aug 2005 18:52

Well we didn't use the chief bridesmaid and the bestman - used the mother of the bride and mother of the groom! Do you know, without looking, who registered your birth? I don't!!! Merry

Poolie Girl Report 15 Aug 2005 18:56

Nope, no idea who registered my birth. Don't even remember if I was there. Beth :) Couldn't a twelve year old be a witness?

You're right Elizabeth, I wasn't a regular at the church, but it was just a lovely church, not far from where I lived but I was just outside the parish and my bridesmaid lived just inside. Hubby lived in a different town, so he wasn't from the parish either. Kath. x

My mother-in-law blamed her husband for years over the misspelling of my husbands name ----------- until she was reminded that she had been the one that registered him. lol

Claire Report 15 Aug 2005 20:46

Well we ran away to get married so our witnesses were total strangers. I DO remember that one of them had the same surname as my cousin though, ;) Claire xx

My birth cert was wrongly dated and in 1953-the Registar had signed it 1952 so I`ve got a new one dated OCT 2003. Rosalyn

My dad registered me 'by declaration' in Horley. My brother and my brother-in-law witnessed my marriage. I do remember volunteering the information that my father was deceased and ensuring all his names were spelled correctly. I have also been a witness to a wedding, my cousin, I was the bridesmaid and the other witness was the groom's brother. nell

Talking about witnesses has anyone got a relative who was a witness at a famous persons or famous person's parents weddding. My grandad was a witnes at PM John Major's parents wedding. They were trapeze artists at the time. My grandad would have turned i his grave if he had realised that any of their offspring would become Conservative as at the time they were of another political persuasion Again yours mim abbott

You did not catch me out I knew all the details on my wedding certificate and I have been married 44 years next month. I was also one of the witnesses at one of my daughter's wedding to. I asked my 86 year old uncle for a copy of his marriage certificate for my file and he had given the wrong name for his father and neither he or his wife had ever noticed and they have been married over 60 years. I think my Dad registered my birth but I'm not sure, will have to go and have a look. Maybe I'll find another 'error', perhaps I'm not as old as I think! My Marriage Certificate, like my Wedding photos, was put away for safe keeping and never looked at again. M. Steer

Seasons Report 16 Aug 2005 12:40

Well my husband and I can't even agree what was the day of our marriage. It's either the 20th or 22nd but we'd been together for a few years before that so have never really bothered celebrating the actual anniversary.

Has anyone else found this on any of their birth certificates. My Dad's brother was born at one addressa dn by the time they registered the birth 2 days later they had moved around the corner. Has anyone ever had that happen. Mim

KathleenBell Report 16 Aug 2005 14:36

Miriam, Your dad's brother could have been born at a relative's address. I have a few like that, for example my own father was born at his mother's sister's house just up the road from where his mother and father lived. Kath. x

Yes, Dad registered my birth - two weeks after the event. Mum couldn't decide on a name - in the event I was named after her and my second name after Gt.Grandmother. One of those 'ageless' names that's never in our out of fashion. How and who can take your Marriage Certificate away from you? It's your property, you paid 7/6d (showing my age) for it. Or was that a Dog Licence? M. Steer
