Not been in from work long, I am resisting having a dig around Ancestry because I know what will happen nobody will get fed tonight lol. Thanks for all your replies, I really do appreciate your help and guidance. I have a couple of weeks holiday in September going away for 1 week and hubby asked me what we should do for the 2nd week, I suggested visiting cemetaries, he gave a snort and a funny look, I think that was a no. I've got news for him lol. Sue

I just saw a message on this thread regarding using Ancestry's other facilities not just the Census. Went onto message boards and found a post from someone looking for relatives of my husbands 4xGrandfather. He was transported to Tasmania and she even mentioned the name of the boat that he went on. So get on there and have a good hunt. Your rellies might me right under your nose. Happy Hunting Linda

Sue I know how you feel my husband answered the phone last week and I could hear this person say hello this is Terry Hatcher(my long lost cousin I have been trying to trace ) so I rushed up and grabbed the phone from him he just laughed thought I was mad.I am lucky in a way our next door neighbour is as fascinated as me , at least I think he is or maybe he doesnt want to upset me. I suppose I am lucky in a way being out here I can scream and shout when I want , but there is no-one to share it with. I laughed the other day a Lady on the general topics board had a daughter who graduated and she meant to say to her this is a Milestone in your life, instead she said this is a Tombstone in your life. How bad is that ?? good luck

Well Ive found a large number of my pre 1837 marriages on Pallots Marriages for a start plus you get the bonus of seeing the actual image which you can copy and put on your tree program.

Valerie, You are lucky my 'office' is in the living room, I get shushed when I get excited about finding a rellie, nobody can understand my excitment. Heather, Yes a £1 a week is cheap, hubby and boys spend a fortune on footie, my guilt is receding fast lol. I will spend tonight looking for the other facilities I am not too sure what is there to be honest but hey ho it will be fun looking. Sue

Sue, think of it as £1 a week. How many hobbies are that cheap? Dont forget to use all the other facilities, not just census.

Kate I tried that as I actually started researching his lot first but as I didnt get a lot of response from him decided to do my lot, and I must say they are much more interesting lots of Skeletons not like his family all posh and boring, they led ordinary lives so far. except they were quite rich, Mine were mostly Eastenders and very poor , but as I get further back had a few surprises , good luck with your research if you have a hubby thats interested it must be fun, I have to go to friends or neighbours to get excited when I find somebody, and it is a bit frustrating.

Sorry, I'm not trying to 'hijack' this thread, but Valerie, if you offer to trace your hubby's ancestors as well you may find he suddenly becomes more interested! Kate.

good for you , dont feel guilty just enjoy it , although I do feel bad some nights when I am on here and my lovely husband is by himself , I have an office in the garage very nice too, my hubby did it for me , but I think he is sorry now , I spend so much time looking for dead rellies, and he is not a bit interested which makes it worse.

Heather and Valerie, Had success already, I have found my ggg grandmother, been searching for ages, beginners luck perhaps. I think it will take me a while to learn to navigate around it all though, all this information for £55.95, I got the 20% discount, bargain. I did feel a bit guilty about spending £56 pounds on me, but its my wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks, so hubby said look on it as a prezzie, a very nice prezzie though. Sue

I bought mine from ancestry before I got FTM - no problems using it through the program. If you put ancestry in the search box at the top of this board I believe there is a thread about current special offer.

SueinKent

SueinKent Report 30 Aug 2005 19:45

Debby, Call me daft, but how do you buy the U.K. version, through FTM it seems to be only the American version. Sue

Debby

Debby Report 30 Aug 2005 19:41

Sue I joined through FTM and mine is the UK version - cost me just under £70. To be honest I never use my FTM to link with Ancestry although I think you can acces it regardless of which version you're using. Debby

I am thinking of subscribing to Ancestry U.K. If i join through FTM it seems to be the American census not U.K. and the cost is $199.00. If I join through the Ancestry web site the cost is £ 69.99 and is England and Wales. I know the obvious answer is the U.K. site but can I use this in conjunction with FTM? Could somebody please advise me what I should do? I know this might seem to be a daft question, but I've had a long day lol. Sue
