Linda You can give the person information you think is relevant without opening your tree to them. That way, you can protect the information that is unconnected to them. If you want to try and get something back in return, you could offer them a certain amount and if they ask for more, you could ask them to tell you what they already know in order to help you decide what you have that would be of use to them. If they say they have little or nothing, you can then decide if you believe them, as surely they must have enough for them to have got back four generations. Amanda

Thanks for that Rose. Like I said I suppose I'm just reluctant as Ive given access before and on two occasions all my tree as been used and I've recieved nothing in return.Linda

My tree is on Ancestry , all I have on here is me . I have given access to 3 or 4 people who have proved we are related , with brilliant results . I would not give any info about my family unless I was 100 percent sure we were connected , and anyone else who is doing serious family research would understand . XX Kim xx

Hope you won't mind me putting the other view....... I only have myself and parents on my GR tree so asking to see my tree would not give anyone much help, however I have lots of info drawn up on paper going back quite a long way which I am happy to share when asked. Perhaps the person who has asked to see your tree, is the same or not competent enough on the computer to feel able to fill in his tree? Personally I would ask what info he is looking for and go from there, you could always give a little info at a time until you are sure there is a link that you feel happy with. Rosex

You are NOT being mean!! There have been too many stories on here re stolen trees and/or information. Contact them again and ask for more information ............... eg, how do they think they connect with you or your tree Sylvia

I have recieved a request on here for access to my tree.The person has given me access to their tree.Thing is there is only one name on it.Their own? I have been 'stung' before by giving lots of info but recieving nothing in return.I dont mind SHARING but am a bit reluctant to givig them full access.Do you think I am being mean Linda
