In 1861 we have James living with 'mother' Priscilla BARLOW. James is shown as 29 and a brushmaker. The apparent mother, Priscilla is shown as widow aged 25! So if we assume a mistrans or mis recording and she was somewhat older then it would seem that Mr Davenport died when the boys were young and you may therefore find them under a stepfathers - Mr Barlow's name in earlier census. I have to go - but have a look for James and George as Barlow.
