Jackie - You are making perfect sense....it's Ancestry that isn't lol I know exactly what you mean, but on my screen that box isn't there (the one that says at the bottom 'show advanced search options'). Where's it gone??? It should be right underneath this: ''Refine your search of the England and Wales, Civil Registration Index: 1837-1983'' but it isn't!! I get the correct box come up if I do a census search, or ANY OTHER FLIPPIN' SEARCH......GGGGGRRRRRRR!!! lol Am going to digest my curry now......... Goodnight everyone! Merry

What I don't like about it is it keeps suggesting I start a tree with the name of somebody I haven't found any matches for!!! Kate.

Merry Took me a while to find it. On the civil reg results page- Do you have a box at the bottom of the page, under your search results that just has the persons name in it? If you have, click on 'show advanced search options' You can then search districts, qtrs, years etc. Hope this makes sense Jackie x

OK - I give up, I'll have to do it that way - but it's SOOOOOOOO much slower than the old way!! When you do as many lookups as I do in a day every second counts LOL!!!!!! Will just have to get a new take-away menu from the Chinese???!! Merry

Go in from google and the first page has changed :down the bottom select the English Civel registration etc and the 'new' search page comes up.it does have quarter etc on it . If you are going in from your 'favourites' or a 'bookmarked page' it may not have updated it properly and you probably need to add the new Ancestry Co Uk page to your favourites. Good luck ! Kim

I must be looking in a different place Kim.........There's nothing under ''refine search''!! This is what I would do before: Main search page - search for (say) William Smith Next page would tell me Search Results in Census in BMD's in Military in Immigration etc etc If I clicked on the 1837-1983 BMD's there would be thousands of results, but I could refine. NOW I CANNOT. Ggggrrrrrr!! Then if I wanted to switch to census for the same name I would click on the back button until I got to the Search Results page and then go to whichever census I wanted. Then refine again! Gggggrrrrrrrrrrr!! Merry

Found it! Merry, Put in Country 'England etc' under where it says Refine search 'Where did they live' in bold , then the 'county' comes up , choose the right county and your next results will be limited to that county. Then from there you can choose quarter , district etc , same as before!## More longwinded but get there in the end. Kim

Jess - Absolutely! Rachel (Oh, Rachel's message has gone lol) - I can get to it OK and do a search. It's just that after you've done the search and the first list of results appears, there's a bit that says, ''Refine Search'' and there used to be a box where you could type in some restrictions (like a particular district, or whatever). Now that box has gone! I could go back to the original box and re enter in there, but I usually do my searches from the main screen as it's much quicker. Won't be able to do that any more unless they make some changes...... Can anyone else find a way?? Merry

i don't like the new lay out because you don't get the record (b, m, or d) in bold like before boo hoo but lets look on the bright side - perhaps they are getting ready for 1851!! yea hey!! Claire

Merry Report 21 Sep 2005 19:53

Merry Report 21 Sep 2005 19:38

Ancestry have changed their layout whilst I was bathing the kids. Now if I do an ''England and Wales, Civil Registration Index: 1837-1983'' search, the box to refine the search after the first set of results has vanished.......?? Help.........:o(( Merry
