I subscribed to the Ancestry American site but if I go to the uk site and enter my details it lets me use that the same way as the other. So in theory if you subscribed to the uk site you should be able to sign on to the American site and use the uk records through there if that is what you sighed up for. Can't try it the other way as I didn't sigh up to the uk site. Fiona.

Yes Pam one minute they soon then it is April. Don't call April soon. Saw somewhere 1841 Nov. So who knows. Suppose if we stop wishing and hoping (feel a song coming on lol) it will just pop when we don't expect it. Germaine x

I joined the American Ancestry site. It works out cheaper compared to the UK site I have subscribed to the British records portion of the site. I don't need any American information. I can access the British records through both the American and the UK sites. Deb

So Steve, you are saying if you join thru the u.s. site then you can view the census etc thru familytreemaker for u.s. without paying extra - just the UK package? Great. Is it more of a fiddle to view UK records if you join through the com site?

JG70 Report 5 Oct 2005 22:04

It's annoying that American ancestry is cheaper as they have loads more rescorces to view than us - including census up to 1930 lucky gits.

Hi Heather, Just had another go with the websearch from Family Tree Maker - it worked. I have to logon to ancestry(.)com with my UK sign-on. It doesn't appear to work if I just sign-on to the UK site. Thanks Heather - your post got me thinking, and so I tried again. Haven't tried for a couple of months. Brilliant!!! Steven.

Hi Heather, It's the UK census images I can't view on the US site. I think it's because Family Tree Maker displays the results of the web search on ancestry(.)com and not (.)co(.)uk. I'm hoping that if I subscribe to ancestry(.)com rather than (.)co(.)uk it will realise I do have a subscription and allow me to view the images. I can do manual searches on (.)co(.)uk anyway, so it doesn't prevent me from researching - it's more of an irritant, in that Family Tree Maker could have added the ability to specify which site (us or uk) to display the results on. Consequently I can’t use the web search facility on Family Tree Maker. Steven. Thanks Germaine, I'll keep an eye out for the email.

Steve I subscribe to ancestry UK and got the email this morning. Germaine x

Im told that ancestry.com has all the same records as the uk site but because of the exchange rate should work out about £15 cheaper to sub to. Steve, you still wouldnt be able to see american results unless you added that package to your uk sub.

Steven

Steven Report 5 Oct 2005 10:49

I subscribe to ancestry(.)co.uk and I'm very happy with it. However I also use Family Tree Maker 2005. This allows me to do web searches on individuals in my tree - but always displays results from ancestry(.)com to which I haven't subscribed and therefore can't view the images. If it displayed results from ancestry(.)co.uk I would be able to view the images. Consequently I may subscribe to ancestry(.)com next time. Steven.

Is there any difference between subscribing on US or UK site. I only need UK site so automatically subscribed through .co.uk. Do you get same access through US site for UK data?

Heather

Heather Report 5 Oct 2005 10:09

It should be the same time, shouldnt it. Though Im sure someone put on a thread a while back that said the US site gets updates before us. Perhaps I will buy through the us site next time - my sub is due in 2 weeks.

Hi, Are you subscribed to ancestry(.)com or ancestry(.)co.uk? I have just received an email from ancestry(.)co.uk but it makes no mention of the 1851 census. Is it possible that the 1851 census will appear on the ancestry(.)com site before ancestry(.)co.uk? Do you know of the 1861 census appeared on ancestry(.)com & ancestry(.)co.uk at the same time, or did ancestry(.)com get it first? Regards, Steven.

I know how you feel Netti! I check Ancestry at least 20 times a day just in case it's come on while I was changing a nappy or doing the school run - I can't wait! Still, Germaine's news looks very promising, goodie, goodie :o) Helenxx
