Since you don't know who his parents were, it won't help much getting the cert, though it might say Elizabeth Stemp, father ??? Morris Why did they lie about ages... a number of reasons. Why does anyone lie? Sometimes they simply couldn't remember. There weren't calendars and such (as much) as there are today.

why did they do that? do you know? im guessing ive found the right family as the occupations of stone mason crops up with one of the other sons. How do i find out if thats the right marriage, by getting the certificate for sure?

The James I found in 1871 mistranscribed as McConnel (with parents Bartholomew and Anne McConnell) is born the right year and in lambeth. but the James on the 1881 census, is still with bartholomew and ann as parents but the dates seem to change for all their ages? there is a 5 year discrepancy between the two james'. Did people lie about their ages back then for what ever reason?

Can anyone help again (sorry), but yesterday everyone helped me find James McConnell (brn 1863) London, Bermondsey on the 1901 census, and Elizabeth Mary McConnell (wife brn 1867) London, but I cant seem to find them on any other census returns - i've tried the space between Mc Connell and soundex on ancestry, but no luck! what am i doing wrong!!! HELP!!!! arrgghhh update: found a James McConnell on 1881 census, but born 1868 London, Middx - then found James McConnel on 1871 census (brn 1863 Lambeth) - Do they have some discrepancy on the ages on ancestry? ive looked at the census pages and the ages do tally up, so is this 2 different James McConnells?
