Paul, only two differences from what Joy has given you. WILLIAM 25 SON is a coal miner STONEMAN not STONEMASON, and GEORGE W 23 SON is a coal miner HEWER he is the man who digs the coal from the coal face. TED. a STONEMASON works with stone and a STONEMAN seperates the stone from the freshly dug coal, two COMPLETELY different jobs. TED.

It is the addresses and jobs which I have difficulty reading. So far I have the printings from 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 - its the deciphering of the handwriting which is time consuming.

Ted Report 19 Nov 2005 18:45

Paul, hi I should think so, cant think of another way unless of course you might know where they were baptized and you could get the info of the church records, otherwise its a case of paying your £7 to the REG OFFICE. TED. tell us what census you have been looking at, name etc and I will have a look at the census and see if I can help you. sometimes a second pair of eyes can help. TED.

Hi all, I have managed to find quite a bit of info thanks to the kind people on this site but there are a couple of grey areas still. Firstly once you have the month and year of birth, is ordering a birth certificate the only way to get the date. Secondly is anyone out there a dab hand at reading the census pages. I have a few which have details which are illegible to me
