Fighting Cocks and Sadberge are both very close to Darlington. The only way you could tell whether you have the correct birth certificate is by asking for a check on the father's name - though you can come unstuck on this if the father say has two Christian names which he swaps round from time to time.

Just wondering from the information which is posted here, if anyone could find the birth entry for Robert William Mawson. I can only find his marriage.

Confused. The earlier census entry seems to suggest my Great Grandfather was born in Fighting Cocks, Northumberland. Is that true, or am I misreading the info? Sorry for being blonde, but the eagerness to research my family tree is not always compatible after coming home after a 12 hr shift lol

The birth certificate of Margarets Son (My Grandfather) does not show her as having a middle name, can this be relied upon?

In answer to the earlier query, my Granfather was born in Holywell, Northumberland - The district of which is Tynemouth. Is it best to get certificates for every step just to be 100% certain?

Paul Marriage certificates state age (i.e. 21) which SHOULD give you an idea of year of birth. Not always accurate though. It should enable you to find Robert and Margaret in the census returns. Suzy
