Maggie - unfortunately you won't be able to get a birth cert for Sarah (1831) as civil registration only started in 1837. Were there any other children on the census, who maybe were born after 1837? Richard

Selena Thanks for those. That seems to be the Sarah I wrote of to Christine, so will try for her birth cert. I think too that just probably is John's death. I know he died before the 1851 census. Will now send for the cert. to make sure. I appreciate your help. Cheers Maggie

Christine Thanks for your reply. I had found those children and it seems they are very likely those of my John and Elizabeth. Sarah is with Elizabeth on all the censuses. Once as a daughter, once as a married neighbor and finally as a widow with a child living with Elizabeth. Thank you for looking for me. Maggie.

Hi Merry That certainly looks like a possible. Elizabeth was born St. Clement Danes according to all the censuses. I think that Bloomsbury became St. Giles after 1838, not absolutely sure about that. I guess it is all in the same area isn't it? Thanks so much for your help. Maggie

Maggie, what part of London was John Trevis and Elizabeth in? And roughly when would they have married?

Ken: Thanks for your reply. Looking for marriage for: John TREVIS b. c1801 to Elizabeth (Unknown) b.c 1805. I have her on all available censuses as a widow, so he must have died before 1851. Haven't been able to find his death either. The name is easily mistranscribed. I have a couple of others but am not finished searching all records for them yet. Thank you. Maggie

Thank you SHIRLEY and RICHARD (does this mean I am shouting????) That question has been bothering me for ages and every time I can't find one of my people I have had to think that maybe the records are not there. Knowing that they are, and perhaps have yet to be transcribed gives me more hope!! Thank you again for your replies. Maggie

I believe it was the WW1 miltary records that got burnt in an air raid in about 1941. Lots of the records were destroyed altho some have survived & some are just burnt pieces. They are know as The Burnt Records & are on micofiche at Kew. Shirley

Maggie I don't think that any of the civil-registered BMD records have been destroyed. Someone will doubtless correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know the GRO hold a complete record of all BMD events that have been submitted by the local registry offices since July 1837. Of course, the GRO don't have a record of events that weren't registered, and some events that were registered at local offices never made it to the GRO. For those you would need to check with the local registry office or consult parish records. Richard

Hi I have been trying to find several marriages in London and come up empty. One is for Benjamin Thompson b.1862 to Sarah Jane Wright b.c1858, probably at Westminster. I have tried everywhere. I know that some records were destroyed during the war and some in a fire at another time, does anyone know what years these records covered? I can stop going crazy with these if I know they just aren't likely to be there. Thanks a lot to anyone with answers. Maggie.
