Why isn't his death registered?

I have my great uncle John Wood's seaman record from National Archives online and it says that he died 14 Jan 1912 on board the Berwick at Sheerness from cerebral haemorrage. This ties in with a family story that he was a deep sea diver and bumped his head on the bottom of the boat - although clearly not during the war as we were told. I would have expected his death to be registered in Mar quarter 1912 but there are none even close to his age of about 30 (nor in Jun quarter). Were some deaths simply not registered? Thanks. Lyla UPDATE - still can't understand why his death is not registered but I do have his burial in Sheerness! |
