Annette, You have most of the info you need to obtain the certificates. Just the Quarter is missing. i tried this but it said that GRO was required because dob is 1899 ( although census says 1900) how do i get GRO?

Hi Annette For the cost of two certificates it is well worth it. You can order the certificates online at the following address: www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp Once you get into the realm of 1841-1901 censuses it becomes much more of a web based research project but it all depends on how acturate you want to be and how much evidence you want to support each relationship. You can either just go on what the censuses tell you or order certificates to support the findings. Some people just get info from others on sites likes this and take it as being 100% and go with that. Each to their own. Good luck. Suzanne

If you go to the homepage on this website and scroll down you will find a section called 'Getting Started' which you may find helpful to read. In a nutshell, yes, you have to get certs before you can safely move backwards. You could, just possibly, find the details of Baptisms, if you knew the area, but this could be a long and painful slog - much quicker and probably cheaper to get the certs. Olde Crone
