Emma had one brother and two sisters i can find no trace of the brother untill 1901 he is 30 single and a boarder in some one's house. The sisters are both married but Emma is not with them in 1901. As for Edwin he was the eldest of the family, i will look at the others again to see if by 1901 any of them were married or living in the country it is worth a try, I still think there name would have come up tho, even if they were visiting. As I was searching through the districts, I noticed one page listed the following at an address: 'Gone on holiday to the country' Maybe this was your Emma and Edwin? lol Do you know if either of them had any brothers and sisters -maybe you could trace them through the census and see if Emma and Edwin are staying at relations? I know its a long shot, and I do apologise for being quite jolly and perky about your brick wall. My only excuse is that one of my brick walls (five years banging my head against it) has started to crumble in the last two days and so I am very happy :)

Sorry its taken a while to reply.... Edwin is listed in the 1891 census simply as E T Willoughby.... Name: Willoughby, E T Age: 30 Estimated birth year: abt 1861 Relation: Boarder Gender: Male Where Born: Rotherhithe, Surrey Birth Country: England Civil parish: St Paul Deptford Ecclesiastical parish: All Saints County/Island: London Street address: View Image Condition as to marriage: View Image Education: View Image Employment status: View Image Occupation: View Image Source information: RG12/503 Registration district: Greenwich Sub registration district: St Paul Deptford ED, institution, or vessel: 47 Folio: 146 Page: 2 (click to see others on page) GSU Number: 6095613 I realise this doesn't help much with your research - but at least you know where he was in 1891.

I don't think it is the family from Sussex as there are to many differences Name's age's, birth place's jobs. Edwin as all ways been listed as Printer born Rotherhithe why change that it don't add up. I still think that they either went abroad or never filled in the census that night this leads me back to were to look next. Any thoughts please Diane. x

Sheleen Report 26 Jan 2006 10:43

Not sure whether this may be relevant or not.... but have you checked the other St Olaves'? There is one in Cornwal, another in Northamptonshire or Northumberland I believe..... I had a similar problem until I found out my relative was in St Olave Cornwall, not Southwark....lol.

Diane Report 26 Jan 2006 10:38

Hello all, could someone give me some ideas of where to look next. I have a relative Born 1868 Emma Frances Elligett, who married Edwin Thomas Willoughby born 1860, they married in 1892 St Olave ( Southwark,London.Surrey). I have looked every where with all different combinations of spellings for the surname christen name's only, date of birth only birth place you name it i have tried it for about 2 years. I cannot find them. I would have thought that between 1892 and 1901 children would have been born but cannot link any to them. I realise that they may not been at home on census night. Was there any other kinds of list between census i could look at ? I cannot find a death for either of them and i have looked, cost me a pretty penny on 1837. Do you think that they may have gone abroad if so where do i look for lists of people who left between 1892-1901 ? what was the popular destination s at that time.? He was a Printer she was a Dress maker. Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated. Regards Diane x
