Thank you Valerie for bringing this to everyone's attention. This is such an important issue considering our research depends on archives! I've signed the online petition and urge others to do the same. Rachel

In this Quarters Cockney Ancestor ,they ask that people visit (www.)ncaonline.org.(uk/) which is the National Council on Archives online they are lobbying the Government and funding bodies to convince them that putting Archives higher up the agenda is worthwhile , as chronic underfunding means that some UK collections remain un-catalogued ,housed in unsuitable conditions or unused., In the worst cases important Archives are sold to overseas buyers.
