BIG THANK YOU to all of you who have contributed to this thread, I have saved all your information as I'm about to embark upon my search for my Irish branch - have been avoiding it somewhat, due to not knowing where the heck to start!!!!! I've got something to encourage me now. Thanks!

Thanks to all trying to help. My lot are from Kerry, and I haven't moved on their line at all!!! I've checked the websites and realised I'd seen them before but they now have a lot more info on them, so they are hopefully growing all the time. One day...you never know...I might strike it lucky. Sylvia just to say to you some of the Province of Ulster is in the South of Ireland i.e. the Republic of Ireland (Eire) while some of Ulster is in the North of Ireland ie Northern Ireland. Hope this list helps anyone with a query of the Counties and the Provinces they are in both North and South Of The Island of Ireland. The Provinces and their Counties in English and Irish are as follows :- Counties in the province of Connaught (West of Ireland) Galway Gaillimh Leitrim Liatroim Mayo Maigh Eo Roscommon Ros Comán Sligo Sligeach Counties in the province of Leinster (East of Ireland) Carlow Ceatharlach Dublin Baile Átha Cliath Kildare Cill Dara Kilkenny Cill Chainnigh Laois Laois Longford Longfort Louth Lú Meath Mí Offaly Ua Fáilghe Westmeath Iarmhí Wexford Loch Garman Wicklow Cill Mhantáin Counties in the province of Munster (South of Ireland) Clare Clár Cork Corcaigh Kerry Ciarraí Limerick Luimneach Tipperary Tiobraid Arainn Waterford Port Lairge Counties in the province of Ulster (North) Republic part Cavan Cabhán Donegal Dún na nGall Monaghan Muineacháin Counties in the province of Ulster the Northern Ireland part (North of Ireland) Antrim Aontroim Armagh Árd Mhacha Down Dún Fermanagh Fir Manach Londonderry Doire Tyrone On some census and certs the place names of Queens County and Kings County appear these were renamed and are known as County Laios (pronounced Leash), also spelt Laoighis in the province of Leinster. Kings County is County Offaly (in Irish Contae Uíbh Fhailí) is also in Leinster. Kingstown is now Dunlaoghaire (pronounced like its old name DunLeary) and Queenstown is now Cobh (pronounced Cove) County Cork, known for being the last Port of call for the tragic Titanic & also known for it's memorial to the victims of the Lusitania which sank only 10 miles off the Irish Coast in 1915. Good luck to all seeking Irish rellies. I Couldn't sleep so just thought I would add this info for people who may find it helpful. Pat x
