Hi The only reference I have is what is on the 1901 Census as given stating 1870 Congleton cheshire, Age on marriage certificate is 28 years.I cannot find a Birth for him anywhere Sorry I have no other info Cheryl

Hi Merry /Lady Liberty Thank you so much but now I am confused (it doesn't take much) Who do think the George Gallimore Listed as father on his marriage certifcate was? Can either of you find him in 1881 I can't. Plus that explains why he his was James Elsby Gallimore its a family name I've got an Uncle called John Elsby Hodkinson he hates it. Cheryl

Goodness knows, but I bet the father's name on his marriage cert doesn't match the details on his birth cert!!!! At least with that name you know you are looking at the right records! Merry

Well that James with father George Elsby and mother Lavina would tie in with the marriage I found. Looks like he was born Gallimore and had fathers name Elsby as his middle name because Lavina had him before they married.

Hi all Thanks so much for your help I just found the marriage for Levina Gallimore and Peter Elsby in 1870. Oh what a tangled we weave lol!!!!! Just spoken to my cousin get this Sarah Annie Gallimore,James wife, had a sister Elizabeth she used Elsby as the middle name for one of her children and the other had a first name of Annis . I bet she didn't know that Elsby was James's mothers maiden name probably thought it was something posh!!!!!! Again thanks so much for all your help Cheryl

Here's Levinia in 1871, image says married. Very confusing family, so Levinia Gallimore marries Peter Elsby, then goes on to marry George Elsby in the name of Gallimore as well. So it's more likely that Peter was James Elsby Gallimore's father but being brought up by George Levinia just told him he was the father. I notice there is also a daughter Ann born in 1872 on the 1881 census Lady liberty found. So I guess her birth certificate should say father was Peter Elsby. Hope this is the hardest it gets for you!! Good luck!
