Thanks for all your help. I'll keep searching but I'm now wondering if they actually married! The birth cert. of their second son shows Eliza as Mould (nee Coopland) and her grave stone also says Mould. And yes details on 1901 census are a bit strange: Williams age is incorrect and John is shown as son but I think he is possibly his half brother. I'm trying to confirm this at the moment. Details are Eliza Coopland, born 1876 Sheffield, Yorks William Mould, born 1862, Swatton, Lincs. Eliza (age 14) is still living with parents James and Eliza Coopland in 1891. 1901 married with one child, William, living in Rotherham. Some confusion regarding William Mould at the moment as he possibly may have been born William Bailey and his mother re-married. I'm still trying to confirm this. At the moment I've drawn a blank regarding William and Eliza's marriage. Thanks again for your offer of help, if you can point me in the right direction that would be grate.

Liz - do you have the birth certificate of the first child, or any other of the couple's children, or even the mother's birth certificate, to confirm what her full name was before marriage? Or are you just looking for her using the name she has on the censuses? Because it could be that she gives a nickname or middle name or some such on the census. Oh, and the same goes for the father. No luck yet - now widening search on familyrelatives and searching ancestry by quarters. Perhaps they never married! I'll keep searching. Thanks everyone for all your help Liz

You don't say where you are looking, if you are using Free BMD it is still not complete, the same applies to Family Search IGI not all records can be found there. Your best bet is the pay per view 1837 online, if you post details of the people you are looking for someone with a subscription may be kind enough to find them for you. Alternatively Ancestry are currently running a free trial but you will have to register.

Its nice to see that you are trying to find out things yourself. Let us know how you get on at familyrelatives.org I LOVE that site for the period 1866-1920 - its so easy to use and to find people. It sounds like you have only been using the freebmd section on ancestry. You need to use the bmd index beta on there. It does mean, trawling through ever quarter for the years you think she may have married, looking at the image of the records. 1837online offers same facility - but you have to pay to view on that. Its also worth googling to see if there is a local bmd index for the area you are looking at. Your first 10 units on familyrelatives are free after that you will have to purchase at I think £6 for 60. But 10 units should be more than enough for this one query. Good luck. If you dont find her, come back and give us the full details of names and places etc. so someone else can try to find them.

Where have you been searching Liz? On ancestry you can search all the bmd index for every quarter. Freebmd does not have all the entries - though is much more user friendly! Alternatively, you could go to familyrelatives.org website, register free, click on purchase units and a box will come up for a promo code. Enter LC2005 in the top box ignore the password box. Click and ten units will come up, click and they are yours free. For the period 1866-1920 this site is name searchable, so put in the name, event, a time span - you can cover the lot if you want, but you will end up with so many! Say 5 years before kiddie was born to 5 years after? (Remember she may have lost one or more kids before the first one you see recorded) You can refine this by putting in a map area if you are sure of it - even the reg district. One tip - only enter ONE first name. If the brides name comes up - or the grooms whichever you choose to search, then you can click at the end of that line to get the name of the others who married at same time. Hopefully you know the other partners first name so it should be clearish who they married. Good luck

Yes, in 1891 she was still living with parents and married with one child on 1901 census, first child born in 1898 so I've been searching from 1891 to 1898. thanks Liz
