I have Alice wood married to John Benjamin wood on the census it say's that Alice was born abt 1870 Birth place NK London A birth certificate arrived this morning with her name as Alice Mary wih maiden name as Carrington, have found there marriage june 1892 in Lambeth But how can i find out more about alice and her family I have tried to look up her birth I found Jan feb mar 1871 Kings Lynn is this her though? How can I be 100% any ideas, sorry to be so dull and boring on a friday afternoon Thanks in advance for any help jane

The birthplace as per the census......... N K means Not Known, so London may have been added as a guess........ You need to try to find her on 1881 census, free on www.familysearch.org The most certain way of learning more about her is to buy the marriage cert.........it will tell you the name and occupation of her father. You will already have Alice's father's name and occupation from her marriage cert, so that should help you to find her on the 1881 census, hopefully at home with her family. You can use her father's name as a checking point when ordering a birth cert - it will cost £4 if its wrong, but if its right you will just get the cert for £7. nell

No I dont have any other details for her, it was one of her sons birth certs that i sent for which has her down as alice Mary Carrington

on 1901 its a 'do' NK, deffo doesnt say NFK

The only married Alice Wood I can find on census with NK in birthplace is in Barking and it gives her birth year as 1870, not 1871. nell

anything more you know about her, that may give you clues-siblings?- otherwise it is the wedding cert, for father names and witnesses names. nell, that is the one i asumed to be her

Jane You don't know which is her. That's why you need to find her on an earlier census with her family - and you need the marriage cert so you know her father's details. Once you have her on census with the right father, it should be a big clue as to where she was born. nell

sorry I am not making any sense any more : ( Her DOb on the census was 1870 when i looked for her birth there was nothing. I looked up 1871 and there was an Alice Mary carrington 1871 Kings lynn
