I have good days and really bad days, sometimes i am sorry i started, but today is a good day got my son in law started and back 4 generations. tomorrow is another matter. Sue

Hi, I know when they said you had to reg births, but what if the birth is'nt regisitered . How would we find it then. Helen

Hi, We know he was born about 1849 ish.But when we phoned and asked Southport to do a search for us ,and send the cert they said they would do what they could. We phoned them yesterday and they carn't find a birth for him. My mum insists that there has to be. Helen

There was no legal obligation to register a birth or a death until 1875! Merry

Do you know if he had any brothers or sisters? You might be able to find a birth cert for one of them.

Hi Merry, Sorry i didnt get to you earlier, had to go out. Charles cooke (cook/coock),had a brother William born about 1847 ish, in bridgewater , somerset. We know their father was called Eli, thats what was on Charles marriage cert in 1875. Helen

So... Have you found the family on the 1851 census? This hopefully would prove that father is Eli and show other siblings.

Hi Phoenix, I have found then on the 1851 census, and the 1861 but Charles and William are inthe workhouse, dont know where Eli is. Helen

So what is wrong with the Charles COOK registered Qtr Dec Year 1848 District Wells Name COOK Charles Volume X (roman ten) Page 442 Wells is the correct registration district for births in West Pennard It is even included on FreeBMD Surname First name(s) District Vol Page Births Dec 1848 Cook Charles Wells 10 442 Pete

Hi Pete, How come you found that , when it's took us nearly 10 years to find that we where looking in the wrong place in the begining(like Wales). Thank You very much for this info. Helen
