Hi All I have just had 2 pages of Hot matches - with excitment I sat down to explore!!!! 95% of them are for Peter Wood (My Hubby, who was born in Essex) but ever single one of these Peter Wood's were born every where else in the world. Am I missing something here? Maybe he needs to change his name LOL Any thoughts! Janey

i get hot matches sent all the time, i'm a bit puzzled as to how they can think the match is mine sometimes. I have alot of Brown's in my family so you can imagine the ones I get. What gets me though if I have a mary brown in my tree from scotland why do they send me matches of the same name but in london? It's obvious it's not a match.Just common with the name. I get so many I just can;t be botheres to look at them now.

LOL Webster. Personally I dont even bother with Hot Matches, tried exploring them a few times and found them a waste of time. Suzanne

They only match the name and year of birth....nothing else...... I have had pages and pages of them that I have looked at since they introduced it. I have never had a match :o(( Merry

Jane Sadly most hot matches aren't even tepid. I have found a connection once or twice, but I have lots of 'matches' because I have a William Gray and a John Matthews in my tree and there are tons of people with those names. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a facility to match the area, so I get lots of people who were born and died in Australia, nothing to do with me. :-( nell

is it true that adding extra letters to a common name will stop them coming up in hot matches? I'm dreading the Smiths, but don't want to delete them (can't actually, since I've got twigs off them)

Helen

Helen Report 24 Feb 2006 16:45

I've got 11 pages of them now and I've given up too. What if you are a year out on a 'real' match, I guess Hot Matches will not show it?
