Hi again Jim Thanks so much for that - sorry i have only just got back on here from last night - I thought it unlikely that anyone would be able to get anywhere with this but had't reckoned on your brilliance! These people on the 1901 are my husband's side - Harry Pritchard is his Grandfather. Can't thank you enough Kind regards Allie x

Thanks Merry! Think that is the best option. Allie x

Suddenly realised no one has suggested buying a child's birth cert (if they had a child!) Once you have the mother's maiden name you will be able to cross ref in the index. Merry

Allie, have the same problem with my ggg grandparents. I know my ggg grandfather Thomas Preston married a lady named Ann, but there are no Thomas Preston's listed on freebmd or Ancestry that are married to an Ann from the area they were from and the only likely candidate just says Thomas Preston. Did he marry himself?!? Is very frustrating and I don't know what I can do other than buying my gg grandmother's birth cert. Kirsten

Don't forget to check Family Search and BVRI in case the marriage is hiding there!! Merry

Sorry for delay - was just trying several options! The wife I think was CAROLINE (from 1901 census) so don't think any of those. yes, I think the no. is as you say 8_9 but this probably is not the right person. Thanks everyone anyway.

Did you understand? Have you wife's christian name? BURGESS Mary Kate Lambeth 1d 889 Rose Jessie Clara Lambeth 1d 889 WAKENELL Arthur Lambeth 1d 889

Rachel Report 25 Feb 2006 18:39

I've just been doing what was suggested above and I think these are your options - Pg 849 - Rhona Mann or ? - not likely Pg 889 - Mary Kate Burgess or Jessie Clara Rose Do you know by any chance her first name from the next census?

Thelma

Thelma Report 25 Feb 2006 18:36

I know how to do this but it is a bit long winded. Look at the image it will be8?9 not 89 if you can make it out then fine if not then FREEBMD no name lambeth sep 1892 1d 819/829/839/etc if you find a page with one missing or if you know wifes christian name away you go!!!

You could always buy some credits for Family relatives. They have the GRO marriages crossreferenced for the period (from memory) 1866 - 1920. This can be useful if both of the entries are not on FreeBMD or for the 1910 - 1920 period which are not yet included on FreeBMD. Pete

There are some counties that have their own BMD sites, see www.ukbmd.org.uk Where are you looking for?

Well.....think I have too many of these to spend £7 all the time! Thanks anyway - sahll have to take the LONG option! Allie

Christine in Herts Report 25 Feb 2006 17:45

Well, you could trawl through all the pages for that quarter until you found someone else with teh same reference... But you'd probably have to go all the way through, in case there was more than one pair per page! Rather you than me - on that basis, I reckon the £7 is well spent! Christine

hallyally Report 25 Feb 2006 17:40

I always seem to find the marriage entry on Ancestry (and FreeBMD) which only has one partner on it so I cannot find the husband/wife. So annoying! But what else can one do if anything? Is there any way of finding the other partner?
