Can anybody please tell me if it is possible to find out the occupants of an address in 1901 apart from GRO. It wont work with decoder and its not something else i feel i want to pay a min of 5.00 for - not for just one address. My problem is the person i am hopeing to find is called Smith, tried Ancestry but not sure what area of London the road came under, or when or where they were born. To make this sound a bit clearer, i have the sons marriage cert with the address he was living at the time, i am praying his parents were living there also. Mo

i have the mariage cert or a James Smith aged 20 living at 447 West Ferry Road , marriage was at Poplar. I have looked up the road at got various suggestions as to where is is/was, including Isle of Dogs, Tower Hamlets and Limehouse. All i know is that his father was Robert Smith and is shown as carpenter, dont know how old Dad would be or Mums name. Mo

Well I know West Ferry Road personally and it could come under any of those. It is on the Isle of Dogs. (limehouse area) Borough of Tower Hamlets. Suzanne

Have you tried a search on the official 1901 site for a Robert Smith - Carpenter in those areas (it might give you a lead as to where to look on Ancestry?) Suzanne

just been trawling down Robert Smiths on Ancestry, cant find reg district under Limehouse or I O D, there are some Poplars but none come up as that Road. Mo

I have got 4 census for this family,( different peole) all state Father is Porter, just got a birth cert back today for one of his children and he was called a Labourer, so i dont hold a lot of faith in jobs. Seeing as marriage was only 4 years from 1901 census was thinking maybe i might find where and when Robert was born (cant find his birth) and also his wife's name. Mo

and hes living in 447 West Ferry Road, wife called martha.

Mo I think your best bet would be to send for his marriage certificate, then you will know his dads name and search for them on the census's, unfortunately Robert smith born lancashire c1842 is very common. Night girls Carrie
