I've just installed FTM 2006. Now I've been to import/export on here and asked for export. QUESTION: How long will it take before I get the file in my home email inbox??? Yes, I know I'm too impatient but I can't wait !!!! Thanks Sarah :) any other import/export tips gratefully received...

hope yours are all there I got an error message and only 111 names out of nearly 300 appeared on my FTM , When I emailed them they said they had not heard of that error yet somebody else on here told me the same thing happened to her.

Hi Sarah, When I tried to import my GEDCOM to GR I had a problem. I did everything but it was as if the whole thing had stalled. but I found it was the internet browser I was using. I was using Mozilla Firefox and it wouldn't work until I used Internet Explorer. Anne

I have Family Historian rather than FTM. Genes only accepted just short of 400 out of the 550+ I tried to put in. I assume I had some fields in my FH that GR could not assimilate. I've had the same problem sending edited gedcoms to newly found rellies, so I wish I knew which fields were unacceptable. Pam

Ah ha, so its not just me having problems copying my info from GR to FTM (2005 version)!! I received my GR ged file via email attachment within a day of requesting it. Unfortunately, error messages appeared when I imported it into FTM. Then I discovered entire branches of my tree had disappeared quite randomly- including 2 of my 3 children. My all-important notes disappeared altogether as well as the marriage dates and places. I've had to resort to starting from scratch and entering each name into FTM anew. Very frustrating as I had been hoping not to have to do this. Any idea whether the problems creep in at the export (GR problem) or import (FTM or me) stage of the process?

Tracey I also had complete branches of my family missing only 111 out of over 300 appeared most annoying , when I aksed GR about this they said it must be exported as gedcom 5.5 with character set to ANSI and to try again but I didnt know you could change their system did you ???

I managed to transfer from FTM 2006 today to GR. I read the help notes and followed them and it worked fine. I have transferred successfully from GR to FTM 2006, in the past, and allo seemed to be fine. Each time I have made sure I had a back up of each gedcom, so I could revert back if needed.
