Help finding marriage please

I have been searching on Ancestry for the marriage of William Powell to Eliza ? in Mildenhall Suffolk. Couldn't find anything on the usual search but found one on the Beta search for William in Oct-Dec 1853 which would seem to tie up as their first child was born in 1855. However, this does not help me find Eliza's maiden name and I wondered if there was anywhere else I could search - I suppose I will just have to get her name from the marriage certificate!

Gerald can you tell us the childrens names & areas born it might help to find their mothers name. Georgina.

If you could find the birth reg'n of one of the children, the cert for that would have mother's name.........less hit and miss than sending for a marriage cert, which may not be the right one. Reg

Looks like I will have to get a certificate. I just wondered if there were any other sites where I could look up the marriage.

I did wonder myself Georgina but I think I found a marriage for Eliza at some point but haven't confirmed it yet. I will take another look.

Jane Report 1 May 2006 23:13

Thanks - you beat me to it. I thought she might have married John Greaves but like you I checked the 1861 census and then thought not.

Georgina

Georgina Report 1 May 2006 23:17

Gerald dont forget that 1851-1861 are the least transcribed years on freeBMD so her marriage could still be there. I have searched for her death but nothing is showing up. I wonder if the parents married after the children were born & then decided to have them christened all together? Georgina.

Jane

Jane Report 1 May 2006 23:20

William's marriage wasn't on the freeBMD so I wouldn't be surprised if Eliza's was missed off as well - just my luck!!

Jane

Jane Report 1 May 2006 23:22

I'll have a look to see if I can find a later marriage for William - about 10 years later maybe.

Jane

Jane Report 1 May 2006 23:41
