I've searched 1921-1925 inc. with no luck. Most likely I missed it, or maybe it was later than 1925, or the mum was different. Anyway, as you see, it doesn't take all that long to search. I don't see you have any alternative :o(( Merry

Merry Report 4 May 2006 18:53

Oops, just saw the bit about the brother dying in 1986. That should help! What's the surname? (and do you know the mum's maiden name, so we can cross reference the birth entry? Merry

Paul

Paul Report 4 May 2006 18:53

Well my grandfather was born 1920 so his brother is the youngest so between 1920 - 1925. Charles George Fowler was my gfather born 20/07/1920 name of his parents name was Charles Milton Frederick Fowler and Emily unwin her maiden name was cambridge but i am sure charles milton frederick fowler married again i remeber my mother saying so but i am very sorry i dont know who to :(( so all this might be in vain

Have you seen your grandfather's birth registration? It would show his mother's maiden name on it. If the brother is a full brother then he should have a matching surname and matching mother's maiden name. You need to trawl the GRO indexes for the brother's birth entry. The only time this wouldn't work is if they are not full brothers or if they had a very commonplace surname combination. If you think he could have been born between 1911 and 1920 then a quich search can be made using Family Relatives, with the two surnames. Merry

the person your looking for died in 1986? well if you know his name and rough birth year-we can trace him through death records by looking up surname and location. so rough birth year location at death surname

If he died in the second world war or he disappeared and you dont know what happened to him ....well next of kin is on the graves site, and if the next of kin is his parents then that could be another angle-are we talking unusual names here ?

The Ego

The Ego Report 4 May 2006 18:42

best way forward is trade directories and electoral role......what area are we talking -should be able to give you some contact adresses and numbers etc.

Janice

Janice Report 4 May 2006 18:36

What is it exactly that you want to know about your grandfather's brother? Janice

Judith

Judith Report 4 May 2006 18:36

Sorry, they didn't take a census in 1941. As you know the year he was born won't his birth certificate give you all you need to know? Parents' names, father's occupation, address will all be on it. A census entry wouldn't give any more even if available, except siblings I suppose, but you ought to be able to track them down by trawling through the GRO index for the right surname, mother's maiden name and likely district. When I started typing this you hadn't yet posted about your grandad's brother - a GRO trawl ought to turn him up.
