From 1861 census Alfred Holroyd abt 1849 Leeds Son Kirkdale Lancashire Frederick Holroyd abt 1820 Halifax Head Kirkdale Lancashire Sarah Ann Holroyd abt 1817 Leeds Wife Kirkdale Lancashire Anne Roeback abt 1843 Leeds Niece Kirkdale Lancashire I can't find Alfred on the 1851 Census though. So it looks like something happened to frederick's first wife and the mother of his children!

Sorry just had to print the info off to try and piece it all together. Suzanne I'm not the IGI is him..... it's the right name for his father: Frederick but Alfred's mother is Sarah Ann I think. Unless Elizabeth was Frederick's first wife and something happened to her and he married Sarah. Frederick Holroyd (b. 1820 - Halifax) Sarah Ann Holroyd (b.1817 - Leeds) It looks like he is visiting the Ramsdew's for the 1851 census though as the names all fit! You two are both Stars... I was starting to pull my hair out about him. Maybe now I'll be able to find out what he was playing at and why his kids were everywhere else but with him!!

Suzanne I think thats him!! Mary was down on the 1861 census as a railway Porters wife.

Emily

Emily Report 16 May 2006 13:55

On 1861 census for Mary Ann, his wife, it says that her rank/profession/occupation is a Railway Porter's wife. Could this have anything to do with it?

Hi Suzanne... I found that on the 1861 census too and thats what started all the confusion. I just wish they'd all stayed together in one place! Emily I was trying to think of reasons why he wouldn't be at home but surely he should be on a census somewhere. I can't even find him with his brother or parents.

Suzanne

Suzanne Report 16 May 2006 13:38

From IGI... dont now if it helps at all, may not be him? Samuel according to the death index was born about 1842 but I don't know where. His brother Alfred was born in Knostrop, Leeds, Yorkshire

Emily

Emily Report 16 May 2006 13:29

I had a case like this in my tree, where the wife was the head of the family but not widowed. It turned out that her husband went to live with his sister because he had gone blind, and the wife ran the household and looked after the children.

Hi folks I have trawled the census' looking for a family and have found mum and children on most of them but nver mum and dad together even though according to Yorkshire BMD they married in 1859. Dad's name is Samuel Frederick Holroyd Mum's name is Mary Ann Holroyd (nee. Barker) Margaret Ann Holroyd was born 1861 in Hull, yorkshire William Frederick B Holroyd was born 1863 in Hull, Yorkshire Martha Holroyd was born 1869 in Bury, Lancashire Harry Holroyd was born in 1871 in Hull, Yorkshire Kate Holroyd was born in 1876 in Hull, Yorkshire On the 1871 census Margaret and William are with there Grandmother Angelina Barker On the 1881 census Harry and Martha are with mum and a granddaughter Florence Holroyd (b.1879) has appeared (not sure who she belongs to yet!) on the 1881 census Margaret is with her uncle Alfred Holroyd (b.1849) which I think is Samuel's brother. But where is Samuel?! (I think he died just before the 1881 census). And why did the children keep moving about! Any help appreciated.... Kimberley
