hi i hope someone can help me i have found the SHARROCK family on the 1881/91 1901 census but i cant find them on the 1871 . can anyone else ? see below for them in 1881 many thanks love linda x this was the message left last night about 11pm and i got lots of help with it - funny but everyone who helped had a first name beginning with J.!!! anyway the one thing we couldnt sort out was why MARY CORNER was known as MARY FRANCE and her daughter was known as ELIZABETH FRANCE( on the 1871) census even though its says she is unmarried. ? read on and see if you can put a different slant on things. by midnight last night we were all worn out. but another big thanks to all who helped. love linda x

thanks everyone. i can see where i went wrong. the eldest daughter elizabeth france - i thought that france was supposed to be frances you know as a middle name . so elizabeth was marys daughter . do you think mary was mary corner and then married someone called france and then married john sharrock ? thanks for your help love linda x

wonder if you could help to to tie these people in. on the grave stone for ANN SHARROCK born 1874 died 1896 aged 22 years it states she was the wife of THOMAS BRIMELOW but also on the gravestone it has MARY ROTHWELL died 1923 aged 43 and JAMES ROTHWELL died 1960 aged 80 so both born c1880 but i have no idea who these people are ? love linda x

hi jeanette perhaps it is too late at night for me but if france was marys mothers maiden name then how come on the 1871 she is mary france and yet her brother is john corner and why would she call her daughter elizabeth france ?love linda x

jeanette you were right. on the 1851/61 the father in law is richard france so thats right but i dont understand the switch in names ? any ideas anyone - love linda x

Just had a look at the 1871 image properly and not the transcription. The daughter is Mary France, not Mary France Corner. She's also down as unmarried. Janice

perhaps she had a fling with a cousin or because she as had child out of wed lock father made her change name only thing is she is still living with him so couldn't have been bad fall out Jeanette

Hi janice, yes i can see that but why is mary called france and yet john is corner. do you think that thomas corner could have married marys mother and she already had been married to someone called france ? love linda x x
