June Try holding down your Ctrl key when you click on whatever it is you are trying to access. I sometimes get the same problem in certain areas of the site and the Ctrl trick works for me although I have no idea why! Chris (No computer expert)

Hi June, I would just keep trying, it may just be a glitch in the system, I have been on the site for a while and everything was working fine. Regards, Jen

Thanks OC I'll bear that in mind.........just been on there having a gander, see what everyone means about being organised better. I shall be spending a lot of time on there, I think I may have already found a possible three further ancestors! Jen

Remeber that Hugh Wallis site hasnt been updated for five years, so there may be stuff on the IGI which doesnt show on Hugh Wallis. Hugh Wallis Site is a very well-organied LINK to the IGI, that's all, and gives you only extracted records, not those tiresome submitted ones. OC

Thanks again Helen and Julie, I shall go and try it out for myself, it sounds quite straightforward to use. Jen

Jen It's a pleasure! As for Hugh Wallis v. LDS site, I think it depends. If you have a very good idea about which parish you want to search it can be easier to use HW, especially if its a fairly common surname, or you want to see all the events in a parish - very small parishes you can see the whole lot in a few pages. LDS I think is better if you aren't very certain of where you are looking. nell

hiya jen, i find i get more of a direct hit when i use hugh wallis, dont know why, thats how it works for me, i'd give it a go see which you get on with best, the info comes from LDS anyway, just i think hughs site is better organised HTH Julie

Thanks Julie, I normally do use LDS, perhaps I will find it easier on the Hugh Wallace site? Jen

hiya, i take it you have been to hugh wallis's site then????, or were you using the LDS site??? i personally think hugh wallis site is much easier to use, and is fairly self explanitory, just google hugh wallis, it will be first 'hit' HTH Julie

1. google 'Hugh Wallis batch numbers' to find the site. 2. Add it to your favourites immediately. 3. Click on the country you want, and then the county. 4. Now choose the town/village you want. 5. It will display all the batch numbers available for searching. Click on the batch number you want to search. You will then be taken to another screen, where you have the option of typing in a surname (or if looking for a marriage, two surnames), or just seeing the entire batch. 6. When you get the batch you can click on individual entries to get more details. Please note a) coverage is patchy. Some counties have hardly anything b) even if the batch says it is baptisms 1750-1813 or whatever, IT ISN'T NECESSARILY COMPLETE. Wherever possible check the original registers. nell
