Valerie, Merry is after were the records are kept? their official site say's the records are kept at the national archives for soldiers serving before 1921 but on the national archives site i found this. Merry, The second choice was Highland Light Infantry! ;-) I've just realised that the Scots Guards records might be at Wellington Barracks in London. I sent off there for Coldstream Guards records but they each have their own archivist. But is there a difference between Royal Scots and Scots Guards!?? I'll find the address! Cheers, Horatia

Thanks for looking Roy......he had a son, Charles Caton, but his middle name was Artis. Charles senr began life in Bedfordshire, but after a spell in Bedford County jail, he moved to Dundee where all his children were born and he lived out his life. Merry

Merry, just a note? did he have any son's that served in the same regiment, their are a couple of medal cards for ww1 one is a Charles william scots gaurds and the other is a charles 4th Dragoon Guards, showing on the national archives site, got the school run now, back later. Roy

Merry, have you checked the site out? their has been a response It says Scots Guard? circa 1890~1900s I thought Scots guards myself but was not sure, I will check it later this evening as their are a couple of very good people that i no go on the site in the evening, so wait and see what they say Roy

I have a very poor 1870's photo of a distant cousin in Dress Military Uniform. Does anyone know a site who can help identify his regiment, or is there anyone on here who can help if I describe it, please? (that's what I'd rather do.....as I looked at an ''military help'' site once before, but was baffled as to how to use it!!)......Merry x
