Louise If she died in England/Wales, you can search any time-span for the death, if you register with Ancestry. All bmd's are free on the site............ I would advise against using the link via GR, as I'm pretty sure you have to pay for the 'privilege' Reg

Well I spoke to my Mum today and we aro both convinced that the marriage of SARAH Beatrice Evans in 1912 does indeed relate to our Beattie. I used this info to trace what appears to be her birth in 1891, so it is a good start. Really not sure what to do next, would like to know more about her family and the BIG question her death. This will be hard as I suppose she could have died anytime after 1918 and the search facility on here only allows for 5 year searches. Once again thanks for all your help.

Louise Please let us know what more info if any you get from your Mum... I read your story to my daughter (Age 16) who is not interested in this Family Tree stuff one little bit and even she was choked when I read your tale to her I think the Packet of Sweets and the note did it (Sniffle Sniffle) How sad....But it makes you think how hard times were for some folks back then and makes you grateful for what we have now.... Maybe we have a connection via the Evans I have quite a few from Crewe myself.... Lesley :~)

well I have to say that although my Mother says Mary Beatrice or Beatrice Mary I had often had SARAH in my mind, don't know why, maybe somebody mentioned that name to me as a child and it stuck in the depths of my mind. The dates and place and William Kirkpatrick seem to make sense. I will have to chat to my Mum as soon as possible. Very very interesting indeed, many thanks. Louise

The 1888 one looks likely, in that weddings are usually (not always) in the parish of the bride - but that's the parish where the bride's living at the time, not necessarily where she was born. I have seen May used interchangeably with Mary, but I think it was much earlier - pre-1850-ish. Christine

Thank you both for your quick reply, I think she married in Crewe England my Grandmother was the 2nd child and born in 1914 (Montreal), so I am guessing she was married anytime between 1908 and 1913, I know she was very young when she married. Thanks again for your help. Edited to add, WOW, thank you ALL for your amazing help, I am overwhelmed and delighted to have some starting points.

I was hoping to get a little help and advice in my search for my great grandmother. I am new to this and I am really not sure how best to go about things, so any tips would be appreciated. Here is the information I know already:- Her name was Beatrice Mary Evans I think, although, it is possible that she was Mary Beatrice Evans I think her husband called her BEATTIE I think she was born in Crewe (or possibly Hull) around 1890ish. She married a man called William Kirkpatrick and they spent time in Montreal Canada serving with the Canadian Army I believe. They returned to England where she left her family, leaving my 4 year grandmother on the doorstep with a packet of sweets and instructions to 'wait for Daddy'. That was the last my Grandmother saw of her mother. We do not want to judge, we realise she was young and by all accounts deeply disturbed by the loss of her son. It is possible there was another man involved. I am a Mum myself now and I would really like to know what became of my Great Grandmother, my own grandmother died in 1984 never knowing what happened to her mother. Any help appreciated. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
