I've found a Thomas Godman in the 1841 census, in Harpley in the Hundred of Freebridge Lynn who seems to fit - but I can't read his occupation. Can anybody see it better than I can? Pen, I think you're right about Elizabeth in the 1861. I wish she had stuck to one name though. It's making my head spin! Mark

Penelope Report 4 Jul 2006 18:36

Just had a thought..... this struck me... re- 1861 census - The 1861 Census for England was taken on the night of 7 April 1861. So... If they married in the Jan Feb March quarter 186, they would already be married by the time of the 1861 census. Looking at the 1851 census there is NO daughter Elizabeth Dye (as on the 61) View Record Ann Dye abt 1834 Lynn, Norfolk, England Daughter Kings Lynn Norfolk View Record David Dye abt 1837 Lynn, Norfolk, England Son Kings Lynn Norfolk View Record Emma Dye abt 1811 Lynn, Norfolk, England Wife Kings Lynn Norfolk View Record George Dye abt 1842 Lynn, Norfolk, England Son Kings Lynn Norfolk View Record John Dye abt 1844 Lynn, Norfolk, England Son Kings Lynn Norfolk View Record William Dye abt 1806 Lynn, Norfolk, England Head Kings Lynn Norfolk View Record William Dye abt 1832 Lynn, Norfolk, England Son Kings Lynn Norfolk I think it's been written down wrong and Elizabeth on the 61 was the new wife of John. What do you think? Or had you already thought that to be the case? lol Pen x

I've lost a wife! Anna Elizabeth Godman married John Dye in 1861 in Kings Lynn. That much I can find. Trouble is I can't find her before her marriage. She seems to change between Ann, Anna and Elizabeth on various census (censi?) but I can't find any of those names anywhere in the indexes. Can anybody help with any other suggestions (I don't want to fork out for the marriage certificate just now as I've just ordered a load of others) Mark
