Ego... Thanks for finding those families.. The first is John's brothers family the second family looks interesting... will look further into those.. Looks like i need another trip to Trowbridge!! Sorry all for not replying sooner... I went off to the LDS site searching.. Yes there does seem to be some confusion on the Chirton parish name.. but it most definately there in Wiltshire, near to Devizes. Think it must have varied its name way back. After consulting British Origins Gazetter,it confirms our suspicions that the place has had different names Chirton Churton Cherrington are the same place acreage 1926 apparently a superb church there.

Wiltshire Record Office County Hall East Bythesea Road Trowbridge Wiltshire BA14 8JG Tel: 01225 713139 I think this is the one office that holds the complete census records for Wiltshire-the info site is unclear-i recommend that you phone first as records seem split across 4 locations. Specify the Parish.

Chirton exists today..........on the Andover Road, not far from Devizes. However, I note that the list of missing etc for 1841 Wilts includes a Churton..........maybe the spelling has evolved over the years. Reg

I wasnt denying its existence just that it wasnt listed on British origins parish list for the county.... There is a second smaller family listed in 1841 on BO.... Thomas Zebedee 25 Sarah Zebedee 25 Emma 1 (could have died by next census) the ages look approximated........occupation of Thomas is mason-is there alink with this profession?

Sorry, I have to contradict Ego, Chirton is on the A342 just south east of Devizes. Phillimore's Atlas lists the Parish Records starting in 1579. I can find no mention of the Parish on Ancestry in 1841, so have to assume it is missing from their film. Jennifer

I had a look at Chirton on Genuki. It gives it as an old name for Cherrington near Devizes which is in Wiltshire. The good news is that the baptisms have been transcribed by Father Robert Marsh as part of the White Horse index and he will look up 10 entries for £3.00 which seems a bargain if you don't have them already. Anyway take a look at Genuki.

The 2 census families I have picked out from british Origins arent on ancestry........the one they have in Cranbourne is a second family,which is also featured on British Origins.........my theory is that any images not clear have been ignored.......the family that is very close is a very glared image ,and is readable when magnified.

For starters,I have Chirton as a parish not in Wiltshire but up north and there is a place called Churton though.In British Origins there is no Chirton on the Wiltshire Parish list. However I have found 2 families one in Dorset(but born in county)who almost match perfectly......ie the parents and a couple of the kidsare right. I also have only one family in Wiltshire....some of the names are similar......... the problem is the ages wont be that accurate in comparison as they were rounded off in 1841. Hi all, I am looking for the family of James Zebedee on the 1841 census, but having some trouble even finding anyone who lived in the parish. Could the parish of Chirton be missing? I believe that they were definately living in Chirton. James & Sarah married there, the children were born there and they were there in 1851.
