So he does Elaine - I guess the peops. on the one world tree thingy weren't too bothered as they were following thru John jnr. born 1853 - a few more names for me to type into my FTM - I'v made notes on ancestry to offer alternative names for most of them, you can spend hours doing that but if it helps someone else with another name option best to make effort I think -

Yep I agree Elaine, especially the wife, could easily be Harriett, looks like enumerator didn't cross his 'Ts' am going to check on the family tree to see if there was a James in amonst the children, of John and Harriett, I knew my Charles was possibly the eldest, apart from the Susannah you found earlier - thanks I can leave work happy tonight - yes naughty me doing this in between work obviously a bit quiet here today! Too hot to do work so thought I'd frazzle my brain with something else!! Gill

My Mum says that her Gran used to say her father was Irish! But this Charles is actually her Great Grandfather, but having learnt from everyone on tips board about ignoring family comments and birth years until proven this could well be them in 1851, being a bit more truthful than in 1841!!!! All kids left home so makes sense... thanks for that one. Now to find JOHN born 1823/24 and Charles born 1845 on 1851, should be on same census and Charles would only be 6 Always the way isn't it can't find the ones you start out for but find others - with HELP! thanks again gill

Hi Sara, thanks for looking don't think my Chas, the older one seems to have been married to an Elizabeth, and the younger one married to an Eliza - good idea to chck for Chas though haven't done that, only derivations of the surnames - off to chck now! thanks Gill

Gill1957 Report 20 Jul 2006 14:44

thanks Elaine, didn't think she may have got married, silly me - anyway some things to check out - have been looking at 41 & 51 all afternoon, think will give it a break and look again later - have asked the person who set up the 1 world tree for any info. they have the Hariett and John tree, but seem to be following one of 'my' charles brothers line down - they didn't have Eliza 1782, married to the Charles 1787 though so that is a nice bonus..... thanks again. Gill

My Charles born 1845 married an Eliza I know that to be correct as their children include my Gt.Grandmother Esther who was a twin have them on 1881 together with other Gt. Aunts/Uncles who we know to be correct - so don't think Ann correct, Gill

Hi Elaine/Ancestral, yes to both, the 1861 Elaine found is my basis, and I tried looking on the 1871 as I realised I hadn't got them on that either and saw the other one - poss moved back with parents perhaps wife had died and kids all left home by then, OR he was visiting - but another census I didn't have - just trying to get all the census together before confirming with certs.

can any of you clever peops. help me have found family on 1861 census - know John Jefferson Hodsdon born 1823/24 married to a Harriett in 1844 so would assume to find them with eldest children on 1851, definitely a Charles born 1845, or even on own or with his family as a son on 1841, his Father was also a Charles (got this from one world tree) have tried all different name spellings I can come up with, such as Hodgson, Hodson, have tried to use ** even tried looking for John J. John Jefferson in just the 1841 and 1851 cencus - - Oh by the way born in W Hackney Middlesex - seemed to be in this area quite a bit - am still trawling myself any help greatfully rec'd Gill
