Hi, every one, I have a huge big problem ! my ancestor William Ridgewell has got mixed up with about three other Williams and I need to locate the record of his marraige to determine his father's name. he married Sarah Isabella Young sometime around 1875 - 1882. I have looked and looked, to no avail. Maybe a fresh pair if eyes could do the job. There are about 5 of us with this problem. Many regards, Donna.

I've found a Sarah Isabella Young, married in March 1881, district Newcastle T, 10b 23. However, transcribed for that period are 2 women and 1 man, ie William Thompson, Margaret Elizabeth Thompson and Sarah. Any connection? Looks like you'll have to trawl through original records if it is. Bex

Hi, Cornish Maid, the were likely to have been married in Essex, as William was born in Stanford Rivers and Sarah was born in Leytonstone. Their children were born in West Ham.

Probably a silly question, but are you sure that Young was Sarah's surname when she married William? Have found a William R and a Sarah Gunner on same page in Apr/May/June 1878 in Kent. Or am I clutching at straws, lol Bex

Hi, Bex, I have my G-Grandfathers birth certificate and the only surname for his mother was Young, I think that had she had any other name it would appear here, or am I wrong ? Donna.

Hi Donna.well the records are only as good as the informant gives. If the Registrar only asked 'mothers maiden name?' then that would be what is given. Its always a poss that she may have been married before and widowed. Twenty nine seems a bit late to be having a first baby Shirley

The names on that page for December 1878 are: Gibson Isabella Thompson W Ham 4a 36 GREENER Frederick W. Ham 4a 36 Martin Thirza W. Ham 4a 36 Ridgwell William W Ham 4a 36 No Sarahs. Curiouser and curiouser lol

Hi, All, this seems to be a real mystery ! It took me ages to find the entry for my G-Grandfathers birth, I always believed his surname was Redgewell, but it was registered as Ridgewell. Donna.
