Thanks Annie, I see what you're saying, but she has a membership number - does that mean she's a paid member? I've also mentioned a few of the names we have in common, but 'This is not my ancestor' is the only reply I've had!

I think what might have hapened is that she had an E. mail from Genes to say she had a personal message. She may not be a paid member or she may not have recognised the name so she just sent one of those automated replies. If you ask about someone you only see that hotmatch not all the names you have in common. It might be worth messaging her again and say that she is comming up as a hotmatch for x number of names in your tree just in case. I certainly takme more notice if someone gives me several names and dates. I think the rudeness is more the fault of the genes programmer than the person concerned.

Wish you were my relative Ann, I can do with all the help that I can get.

I really can't see why people pay their money and join this site, then don't seem to want to get involved. I could give this person loads more informarion, if only she would reply.

But can you understand somebody doing their tree who does not want a connection? I love it when people contact me as I think I might find out more to my advantage. I only wish somebody would 'claim' my Hannah Jennings. ann Glos

Something similar is happening to me. Someone has my sister and my nephew on their tree (both still alive) and although I have emailed this person several times they have not replied. What should I do

Elizabeth Yes, it's SO annoying, isn't it? Think I'll give her a bit longer to reply, and then ask GR to tell her to remove the names of living people.

Elizabeth Report 1 Aug 2006 23:13

Ann I have had the same thing happen. How can they not be related when they have you on the tree. At least GR made this person take all my living family off, but I have no idea who this person is. I'd really like to be able to make contact as there are both my husbands and my side, but no reply.

I actually think she has the information from someone I've given the info to -perhaps someone in the family, although no one seems to know who she is. She has names that it took a lot of digging for me to find, and I think I supplied the information some time ago, before I knew exact dates, and she doesn't know the dates either.

Have you established how many people she has on her tree?? Maybe she is a name collector? Merry

Thanks for all your replies. I actually wondered how she would physically choose the reply to read 'This is not my ancestor' Whilst my Dad is not longer alive, me and my husband most certainly are! I realise I could ask GR to ask her to remove us, as she doesn't have my permission to put us on here, but I am intrigued to know who she is, as I haven't a clue! Any ideas?

If she has you on her tree, and that is manifestly without your permission, that strengthems your case for firm action. GR would have to make a move in that case. Christine

I contacted someone who had added me my husband and my children and was told she was not interested in that branch of the family.

LOL! I thought that as soon as I'd posted - sorry, rather a large liquid intake tonight is clouding my brain. And obviously, the POSTER is still alive.... OC *staggers to chaise longue for a lie-down*

Really OC? I've got a few I'd like removed, or did you not mean that in the literal sense.

Ann Email her again, saying that she has YOUR relations on her tree. I'm not sure from your post whether these people are still alive - if so, tell her she MUST remove them from her tree as she does not have their permission. If she doesnt reply/comply, then get onto Gr - they are usually pretty good at removing living people. OC

Ooh that's weird......what did you entitle your message for them to reply like that?

I've emailed someone on this site who has me, my husband and my dad, along with other, 'further back' relatives listed. Have finally received a message from her saying 'This is not my ancestor', which I assume is an automated response. How would she have selected this message to be sent to me, and in view of the fact that it is blatantly untrue, what should I do?!
