My BIL has been connecting with people on GR left right and center and has his side of our tree back to the 1600's already. I on the other hand have been sending out messages to sooooooo many people only to find that the ones that responded were never matches. I just transfered my tree to Ancestry and was playing around with it learning the features when lo and behold i randomly search one name on my tree and get a definate match!! WoooHoooo I'm bouncing off the walls wishing they'd email me back right now!! lol The best part is it shows my great uncle emigrated to Pennsilvania USA.... and out of total coincedence my cousin who's on the same family line is now living in Pennsilvania. Wouldn't it be cool if she could meet these distant rellies?? :) Ok ok, calming down now. The info is on the one world tree. what's the protocall if the submitter doesn't get in touch? Can I still use the info, verify it and add it to my tree? Helen

I would say Yes, but you mention one VERY important bit - VERIFY IT!!!!!! There is a lot of rubbish on the World Wide Tree (as there can be on any trees, anywhere, I think!), as well as a lot of excellent research! Well done! Merry

I think of information on one-world tree as public property but I would try to verify it as much as possible. Pennsylvania looks lovely one of my son's was working up in the Appalachian mountains as a waiter last year - super for holidays.

Merry ~ Don't worry, I won't take others work for granted, that would just be silly. Although I must say there's a lot of info on that tree, someone spent a lot of time on it. And the area that matches my tree is spot on to my research and family memory save for one birth year being off by a year so I'm hopefull that it will continue to be as correct as i check it ;) Nicola ~ I don't know how long you've been at it, but keep plugging away the excitement of a big break will make up for all the long hours of frustration!

I haven't been doing it very long philip lol Only a couple of years, but in that time I have found living rellies through being on genes and talked to some amazing people that will bend over backwards to help you out. I have found out quite a bit in last 2 years, and have amazed even myself lol. One downfall I have is that I am so imaptient and have to keep feeding my addiction to find out more I drive my family up the wall lmao Nicola

Nicola, Im the same. I sat drinking in the pub on Saturday tea time, we were out celebrating my friend's birthday. I was more interested in the street we were on and who may have lived there than the beer! Noone in my family seems very interested in what I am doing, which can be very frustrating!

lol I do it in secret in the middle of the night ;) I am self employed so i can get up late if I want to. Right now it's 2.45 am I've got a pot full of coffee, new information from mum and no urge to sleep any time soon hee hee

I know, my other half doesn't really care about it too much. Thankfully my mum and brother in law (Philip... I'm actually Helen) Care and thats why i started doing it at night. They're in the UK I'm in the US so we get on instant message and work through it together. Funny bout the pub lol. I was at a wedding yesterday and hubby was best man, he was filling in the marriage form where he had to sign as witness and i'm telling him to make sure it''s legible for future generations to be able to read ROFL

Sounds great helen, a brill idea. I have been working with my husbands uncle, his father was in the army and had a first wife, but nobody knew anything about her. So I went online and found out exactly who she was, when they married and when she died. He said that he had incling that they had a couple of children, so again I went online and found that they did have 2 children but died at birth. How sad.. They never had any more children, would be interesting to know exactly what she died of, as its pos that she died in child birth, will have to get the cert. I know that less than 6 months later he married again. He was pretty much the black sheep of the family but we dont' know the exact details of that. Its so amazing what you can find out, when I told my hubby's uncle he was so chuffed as he had been searching for ages. Nicola

I work in cahoots with my dad's cousin who I found through hot matches! She lives in Belgium. Neither of us has a game plan, but we both do our own little bit, then share it with the other. It seems to work well for two people in different countries who have never met each other!

Wow this really does bring families together doesn't it. And not just families that meet cause they're both searching but like with my family, my mum and I would talk maybe once a month if we were lucky, but now we at least catch up a bit every day then share research usually at the weekend.

That's brill, well done. What a feeling when you make a find like that. :) As long as you verify everything, and from what you say it sounds like the other person has put in the research pretty well. Think I might put my tree on there too, you never know eh. I might even find some more information on those rellies who emigrated to Long Beach. I live in hope. Well done again Bex

hi cornish, I'd highly recommend it. I've only been playing around with it today but I really like the way it's set up. and you can make it private if you want to.

I was thinking the same thing cornish, I have just exported my tree to genes, I wonder if I can now import it from my offlineline tree. Nicola

Looks like I can't do it anyway, it won't allow me to says I don't have a valid Gedcom file, yet I have PAF 5.2 oh well never mind will have to put it all in manually I suppose. Nicola

Well its not letting me do it cornish and I don't know why, is really strange am going to give it another shot. I don't think you have to have full subscription, you can just register free, but at the moment they do have a 14 free trial at the moment, you can always cancel it before you 14 days has expired.
