the weird thing is I miscarried a little girl at 5 months, she is buried in the same cemetery about 20 foot from where these Woods are, how many times have I walked past and not even given it a thought. since last message I have managed to confirm the Thomas as George's father. LDS has birth spot on.I'm now back another generation and I have managed to locate Nancy Venables on the 1851 census as a visitor with other family members that te in with the Woods. Linda xx

Worth seeing burial records - the church might have a plan or map or something - they didn't all have headstones so there may be more! Jill

Thank you all for your help with this.I'm so happy if I was fit enough I would do cartwheels!! Have just been back to cemetery and re-checked stone, on the sides I didn't notice it has William Wood son of George and Sarah died 20th feb 1867 aged 23 years ties in with census!!.other side Thomas Wood died 1867 aged 88 years (possible George's Father, I don't have him in my tree yet)next to it is a huge monument that says in memory of my brother Harry Ernest Wood died 1953 and also our parents buried near by Thomas & Margaret Mary Ann Wood all I need to do do now is find out who the other person on the stone could be Nancy Venables who died March 24th 1861 aged 76 years Linda

Ok another of those Wood's..... 1881 living at 32 Fisher Street, West Bromwich. Samuel Wood, aged 28, born Oldbury Worcester, Brick Manufacturer. Abigal Wood, aged 27, born West Brom, Wife. Albert Ernest Wood, aged 5, born West Brom (son) Walter Cifford Wood, aged 3, born West Brom (son) Eveline Wood, aged 1, born West Brom (daughter) and also a servant whose name just made me giggle... Fanny Handly, aged 20, born Stafford, unmarried. Linda I just googled but could only find out that 315 High Street was built mid 19th century and is now a listed building!! Shaz x

Hi Linda... dont know if this helps you in anyway, you may even have this already but every little bit helps... I have found Peter Wood aged 30 Bricklayer Enoch Wood aged 25 Architect on 1881 living at 315 High Street, West Bromwich. Both born Oldbury, Worcester, both unmarried. A housekeeper also lived with them she was Mary Ann Johnson aged 35 also unmarried born Stratford Upon Avon. Shaz

thanks all, Janet I have been to 6 cemeteries in the past couple of weeks and taken about 100 photos, and this is the only one that in anyway remsembles my family.the rest must be with your paupers.This family however (gained from census info) had a brick making business and employed a lot of people, probably why they actually have a stone, there are 2 other Wood stones there, but more recent am going to go back and photograph them, might be able to tie them in somewhere Linda

You could check the burial records, (poss. held by the church or local archives) get the death certificates for clues, look for a Will? Alternatively, DIG 'EM UP and look for a family resemblance:-))))) (Absolutely NO offence intended) I think your in luck with this one. If only my lot hadn't gone in paupers graves or been buried where I can't find them.

What about the church that owns the graveyard, its just an idea but maybe it would be a good idea to search the parish records for burials, maybe it will give some more cles. Nicola

I think it's looking good. In 1871 Sarah would already be Mrs Nash (I haven't looked for her), so that's why she isn't with the other Wood family. A variance of 2 years is more normal than being exactly 10 years older each census!! merry

Linda I'm not too sure... just two things.... I cant see Sarah on the 1871... I can see Sarah the mother but not Sarah the sister who would have become Nash. Also on 1871 Nancy is aged 29 so should be 39 on 1881... I know how they werent too great at remembering their ages anyway but still wondered how she only aged 8yrs in 10. Shaz
