Non paying members can do everything we can do, except post to the boards and they cannot INITIATE a contact - but they can reply to it. Makes you wonder what we pay for? OC

OC Not exactly the sort of success story Genes would be hoping for. LOL Margaret

Um, I know I'm THICK - but what sort of success story would a NON-paying member want to post on the Success Board?? Perhaps: Hi to all Genes members. I have successfully traced my family tree using Ancestry and the LDS, local Records Offices and bought all the certs. I did this without needing to shell out £9.95 in order to join genes - I can see all the free advice for nothing. So, don't bother joining genes, you can do it for free. That sort of message, do you think? OC

I got this response on my complaint about the offensive posts on the Success Board: 'Thanks for your email.' That was it!! No reply to my questions either. I got the same response as you Margaret for my questions on the slow site.

I got the Thanks for reporting this problem. The site has been experiencing exceptional levels of traffic over the last few days which is why you would have received this message. Our technical team is currently investigating and we hope to have the problem rectified as soon as possible. Suffice to say, this is usually just a temporary problem and should work OK if you try again. Best regards, Rachel The Genes Support Team reply Linda

I get the feeling they don't really care who posts what on here. They only ever remove things if someone complains, and you'd think that with the money this site must generate, they could afford to pay a few full time moderators who could remove things without having to be asked first. However the logical thing to do would be to stop any non paying members posting on the success board in the first place. Kath. x

I asked them weeks ago to sort out none paying members being able to post on Success Board. They replied that they were keeping an eye on the situation. Mmmmmmmmm, I think they took their eye off this weekend, don't you? Margaret

I'm feeling left out now, as I complained to GR yesterday about how slow the site was.....and I haven't had any sort of reply yet, not even a 'standard, stock' reply. I did however get a reply from the abuse team who I emailed about the offensive posts on the success board, saying that the posts had now been removed. However they didn't answer my question as to whether they would stop non-paying members being able to post on the success board in the first place. Kath. x

I've just received one of the 'robotic' replies in response to my contact e-mail about the slowness of the site. I have responded by asking for a 'proper' reply, addressing the issues I raised....................wonder if I'll get one??? Reg

Margaret Report 21 Aug 2006 15:34

I've just had this reply from Genes They must have a few different stock replies Thanks for reporting this problem. I have passed this on to our technical team to have a look at. Please bear with us while we work to resolve this. Best regards, Rachel The Genes Support Team

Dea, if you want GR to read your message then I would suggest you send them a message via the 'contact us' link. I am not sure how often, if ever, they bother to look at the boards! But I do hope they are going to sort out whatever is causing this 'traffic jam'. Kate.

I doubt whether GR will take a blind bit of notice............they don't usually. As for the 'traffic jams' and the supposedly busy site........that is nonsense, as the boards have been quieter in the past few days than I have ever known them.........mainly because people are totally disenchanted with the way the site is operating..........or not, as the case may be!
