Thanks Kate, That looks like him and it was my dad that registered his death that is why I asked him. Oh well just goes to show you cant trust everything rellies tell you. lol Jenny

Assuming you know when he died, you will know whether this is his death entry or not: James Leslie Wood Birth Date: 6 Feb 1924 Death Registration Month/Year: Nov 1989 Age at death (estimated): 65 Registration District: Epping Forest Inferred County: Essex Volume: 9 Page: 2881 If it isn't him, then it is likely to be the one who was born in Edmonton in that March quarter. If it is him, then it looks as if whoever registered his death knew the correct birthdate! Hope this is of some help, Kate.

Yeah I agree with that, Had a few surprises that I didnot know about, sure gave me a shock and a half. got to try and explain some things to my father now, that should be fun!! lol. I suppose that is what this is all about really finding out about rellies and the things that they got up to or didn't!!! Jenny

Not casting any aspersions on your dad or his sister..........they only know what their dad told them about his birth. He could have been mistaken. The only person who knows 100% when someone is born is the mother................ Reg

Thanks for all your help and advice I appreciate it. Hopefully I will get better at this and be able to find things for other people as well. Still learning my way around the sites and finding things is a but hard sometimes. wish they would try and make the site a bit more friendly for people with my condition. However saying that everyone has been nice and friendly and I have managed to find most things for myself. Thanks Jenny

If you get his marriage cert, that will give you the name of his father. You can then use this as a checking point when you order the BC above, to save you getting the wrong one! OC

Nice one Gwen.......but if he was registered in Q1 he can't have been born in April Jenny....I think what Reg means is that just because people are someone's children, it doesn't mean to say they have the correct dob for their parent!! My grandmother swore blind she was born 8th Nov 1896, but her birth cert shows 8th Nov 1892!! Merry

Hi Checked all the quarters for 1924 and the only James L wood is the one in the J/F/M quarter. Edmonton is North London and they could have been a month out. I found this with My Grand father when I was looking for his birth, the family gave me the wrong month. Gwen

Not wanting to be another wet blanket....but can anyone else see the entry Dea mentioned? (mmn Catchpole)?? I can't! Merry

ErikaH Report 21 Aug 2006 21:57

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but your father and his sister could be mistaken. They only know what they were told about the birth date, as they obviously didn't have a birth cert.........or you wouldn't be looking for the info. Reg

Hi Dea, Edmonton would be good. I know the name and also the dates are correct as I have asked my father and his sister. I am looking for his Birth cert so I can locate his mothers maiden name and work from there. I have found the marriage certificate just cant seem to locate the birth one for some reason. Thanks Jenny

Where did you get his DOB? And are you sure about his forenames? Could they perhaps be reversed? Reg

ErikaH Report 21 Aug 2006 21:43

In which records do you wish to find him? His birth will be in the FULL records on Ancestry.........NOT the freebmd extracts, which don't go up to 1924. Reg
