I know Margaret has the newer version of my printer,my pc has a pretty poor cpu, less than 1meg and when booting up it runs at full tilt to initialize my HP software, but i have never had any problems with the 'invasive' problems.Just slow running, but i can't blame the software for that. What i now do is to save the albums created with each download from memory card, edit images as required,(delete any i do not want) then keep the albums on my hp software. I also delete the images from my pictures just to save space on my hard drive. Certs and suchlike i scan to memory card and also keep in a folder in my documents (but only after resizing on HP to 'e-mail' or 'web page' size, typically around 500KB.) The all in one facility means i can scan onto memory card and print from scanner or memory card without my pooter attached. Glen

We've had two HP's the first was a real pain to install, you had to follow the instructions to the letter or it didn't work properly. The newer one a 1355 psc was much easier. Val - sounds like you have usb 2 so your pc end should be fine.

hello Margaret , are you still having problems ??? I must say the HP one was much easier to use, but this one does more, well it will do when I work it out. Have spent some time scanning old photos tonight and I must say they look quite good. Still trying to work out how to cut the bad edges off though. Dont just dump it I am sure you will work it out Val

thanks Peter I will look in my book where would it say ??? I found a bit that says selected Packard bell PCs are equipped with USB 2.0 connecors providing bandwidth 40 times higher (up to 480msps -million bits per second) than earlier versions of USB. USB 2.0 is backwards compatible, any USB peripherals you already have purchased will work with USB 2.0 ports (but you will use the lower transfer speed)

Most computers sold within the last three or four years should have USB 2 ports. Check your manual if you have one, or the manufacturers web site. If you only have USB 1, then this should still work - unless you do an awful lot of printing you are unlikely to notice.

yes I did feel sorry for you hope its all sorted now.I only bought this PC last year I am amazed that you can get faster ports, why didnt they tell me that when I bought it ???So it looks like I have to go shopping again.

The cable has no bearing on the speed of data transfer. The USB port does. My memory stick sage of last week taught me that a USB 2.0 port is up to 40x faster than a USB1.1 port. Not entirely sure how much quicker/better your printer will be as a result though. Glen

thanks Hazel , I thought it meant I had to get a faster cable to plug in , you can see why I have put off installing it cant you ???I just tried to copy a photo and I must say it does a great job of getting rid of the borders , only trouble is dont know where they went after I did them seem to have lost them , oh dear.

I have finally got around to installing my new Printer but it is telling me. The unknown USB device will function at reduced speed , You must add a Hi speed USB Host controller to the PC will it make much difference thanks ???
