Thanks Elaine, If you find anything out from them could you post it on here or PM me please? I'll try to take a look too (3 kids getting ready for school & hubby away, my time's limited at the mo though) & will do the same. I do all my preliminary searches through FTM now & quite often find what I'm looking for, but now, with no dates to go on, when it says it's got 70,000 results it's a bit daunting - a bit like the 12 pages of 'not matches' that I've come back to after the holiday!! Sarah :-)

Elaine Report 1 Sep 2006 23:05

My version is 13.0.317 - when I click on check for updates there is one available - this is the version 16 update. I am leaving well along - my web searches are the same as they have always been (although I must admit I very rarely use them!!) Really don´t know what to advise - will look on the FTM website tomorrow and see if I can see anything applicable.

Sarah

Sarah Report 1 Sep 2006 23:02

Thanks Elaine, I've just done that and it says: 13.0.281 And I asked it to 'check for updates' & it says there is one. SO, the question now is - if I do it will I get normal websearch results?? Sarah :-)

Elaine

Elaine Report 1 Sep 2006 22:55

So if you are in your FTM - and click on help - and then click on ABOUT FAMILY TREE MAKER - what version is shown?

Sarah

Sarah Report 1 Sep 2006 22:53

Curiouser and curiouser.... Having said 'yes' earlier this evening, I just shut the FTM programme & opened it again & it's telling me there's an update (again) - clicked the 'remind me later' thingy this time!! so it looks like the update - didn't. Sarah :-)

Sarah Report 1 Sep 2006 22:50

I only get UK results because I always add 'England' at the end of the 'place of birth' line (where applicable, of course!) - it's easier than having to go in & customise the search. I'm off to check now if it says V16 Sarah :-)

Val wish I'd never started Report 1 Sep 2006 22:47

you can choose to only have UK results if you look at the top, but I did that and still get lots of blanks

Elaine

Elaine Report 1 Sep 2006 22:47

I would normally go through the UK site - its just that I read somewhere that version 16 (which is the update you have probably downloaded) would direct its web searches through the (.)com site. So wondered if you started with that open on your computer, and then did your web search, whether the program would react in the way you expected and show the screen as it used to be (if you get what I mean) Getting late here - nearly midnight - am drinking brandy - waiting for the mascot vote - getting confused -want to go to bed - might be more use if I look at this again in the morning !!

Heather Report 1 Sep 2006 22:45

When I open my FTM program now it actually says Version 16. Does everyone elses? I cant see that it can be V16 when we havent paid any more dosh for the update.???

Sarah Report 1 Sep 2006 22:43

Elaine, If I go into ancestry independantly I use c o uk but through FTM2006 it always goes through c o m for me, do you get a choice on yours then? Sarah :-).

Elaine

Elaine Report 1 Sep 2006 22:38

Sarah - do I presume therefore that you have done the update!! Which Ancestry do you normally log on to - (.)co(.)uk or (.) com Can I suggest you log into (.)com and then do your web search - does the same problem occur ?

Uncle John Report 1 Sep 2006 22:37

I've got FTM 2005. I've just done a web search on the people who happened to be on screen. I got plenty of hits plus a number of those bracketed ones. His missis came up with a pageful of genuine UK hits. FTM searches Ancestry (dotcom). So I'm all right Jack. J

Oh bug*er! was it that flippin' update patch that did it?? I hesitated before I clicked yes..... should have kept on hesitating shouldn't I ?? Oh Glen - you can't be board mascot and board gimp at the same time can you?? I mean, what with the tinsel pants (and the turnip episode) you wouldn't be giving a very good impression to the <general public> would you? I'd much prefer you to be our own little private gimp, even if it is only Mrs Glen & Heather that seem to reap all your benefits. (root vegetables & gimp masks) Sarah :-) BTW Heather - what's with the not so positive?? Pleeeeease get positive again....

Who would think that I the sparkliest of all tinsel wearers would stoop to trawling threads and proffering advice in return for votes. My manifesto has been deposited as requested by the returning officer. I leave the rest to fate. Glen

Just seen your comment Heather - I read somewhere that the version 16 update patch was only suitable for international versions of FTM 2006 and had something to do with your ancestry searches going through the Ancestry(.)com site rather than (.)co.uk site. I don´t know which one you normally log on to (UK or C O M) - but does it make any difference if you change it over to the other one?

Elaine

Elaine Report 1 Sep 2006 21:52

Glen - you needed a better answer than that to get Sarah´s vote !!! (Sorry Sarah - don´t know if you have seen the other thread re board mascot)

Heather

Heather Report 1 Sep 2006 21:52

Ive got the same. I think its something to do with the update they recently did.

There are a few reasons, not exactly sure what may be causing the problem, but it seems to be affecting quite a few in the last week or so. The help centre isn't throwing anything new up either. Geln
