Genealogy Chat

I seem to have got to the end of my tree, well, as far as I can possibly go but I keep 'Umming and arrring' about how I should go about collating all the information and how to display it! Does anyone know a good (reasonable!) printing company that specialise in family trees? I was thinking maybe going large and maybe get as many on there as possible and not just descendants. If there is anyone that has any other ideas about how to put this all together I would be very appreciative of your suggestions! Thanks, Ray

Well you could try the Chartists (just google) I've never used them but they are often featured in many family tree magazines.

There is someone who posts on here who could print that, I believe. I'll have a look for a thread. If I blatantly advertise for her, this might get zapped. Gwyn

I saw some of Ron & Carol's trees on their stand at the family history fair at York - they were brilliant. Haven't had mine done, but lots of members have and have said on the boards how pleased they have been with the result. Jay

Ron is a good man who will help you with any decision problems. He showed me how my tree would look in different styles. In the end I decided to have a full tree with all siblings etc on it. It did finnish up about 16 feet long, but, it is very good. I had three copy's printed for family members which he did reasonably.

Geneology Printers are an excellent company. I have bought several of their pre-printed blank charts and found them very good value and their service brilliant.

Genealogy printers are in the U.K. They did the family trees for the first series of Who Do You Think You Are? Nice friendly people and reasonably priced. Kath. x

Errr...help please for a thicko? When I click on the genealogy printers site it comes up with an American Company. Is this the right one as I can't find a link to any genealogy stuff. Do Ron and Carol have a website? Thanks Lyla

Ray What I do is I type up all the information that I get into the relevant people's notes.. Started with Census.. Typing up the whole family.. as it appears with their ages occupations and where they were born.. When I get the Birth Baptism Marriage or Death Burial details I do the same Birth in the Sub District of ..etc Baptism Register St Mary's Church.. and place.. Marriage details Census if applicable.. Death Cert details Burial details.. Then try and pad out the info.. looking for.. these people were married in Ulverston .. for instance.. see what I can find out about the history of Ulverston.. and add that to their notes.. Would these people have attended school .. what school did they attend and do the records survive.. When they married were they married by LICENCE.. does it survive.. Photograph the houses where your ancestors lived.. farms.. etc.. Did these people leave a Will....All relevant meat to the bones.. Did they die in the workhouse..Do the Workhouse records survive..why were they addmitted who admitted them.. were they discharged..or did they die there.. Were they killed in an Accident.. Look for the inquest into their death..if in mining check the Mining Museum see if they are listed on there.. find out about the pit they worked in.. and try to follow the family from the cradle to the grave.. Did they move what was that place like.. what were their living conditions like.. what was their occupation.. At a glance on bringing a report down from my Family history program I can see who I have made a lot of effort with and who I have'nt.. and I just keep plugging away until I build up a decent pic of the family and their lives.. That to me that is what family history is like.. A complete pic.. Once I feel I have all that.. then I might consider having the Family History published somehow.... Or I could just print the whole of the tree off in the report.. and put the whole lot in sleeves.. and place in a A4 binder..still makes reading it like a book.. So far 1 of my reorts are about 200 pages long this is for one line only.. What I am also doing at the minute.. is scanning the marriages that I have got from the records office and cutting the marriage off that I need.. I have found that I can then insert this into the report and it brings the report to life....so lots of available info out there to get if you dig ... dig ... dig.. When I say Dig.. I dont mean in the churchyard ... LOL Mo
