It's simply a matter of systematically trawling backwards through every quarter from the last known child registration. Make sure you are looking at the complete image, not the patrial indexes

Mark To find the marrriage, you can do what the other GR members have done in finding the births.........i.e., register with Ancestry (free, so no expense incurred) and trawl through the marriage records. Make sure you access the FULL records, not the freebmd ones which you have looked at previously. Happy hunting Reg

Now that i know the father is Henry Barber and the mother is Jane Ward..................how can i find out when they married and when and where they were born. Preferably without buying a certificate.

I spent 10 years working for a firm of chartered accountants as administration manager !!! You will have to spend on a birth certificate and then work backwards. Sorry can not be anymore help. Good luck. Maureen

I've tried the above sites, but the dates on there seem to just go up to about 1914, so i wouldnt find there marriage, and as for birth, im not sure where he was born. thanks anyway, i'll try and get hold of a birth certificate

no, no birth certificates at this stage!

Do you have any or the chidren's birth certificates? This would give you parents' names. Then you could do a search through the BMD indices on Ancestry to find their marriage, get that certificate which would give you their ages and fathers' names. Then you can search the 1901 census to find the families

Best way to start, is get birth certificates. You can search for the births here (it's free!): http://www.ancestry.*co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8912 Once you buy them, it will tell you both their parents names and you can search for a marriage to find their ages. Hi, i would be most grateful if anyone could help, im trying to get further on my tree...........this is what i have........... There are 7 Barber children, all born in Scarborough as follows: Mary Barber born about 1927, Eric Barber born about 1927, George Barber born about 1927, Henry Barber born about 1928, Ivy Barber born about 1930, Albert Barber born about 1930, Eileen Barber born about 1930, We know there father was called Henry Barber and the the mother was called Jane ?........both parents probably born approx. 1900, could be in the 1901 census, might not be, i'd love to get further with this line of the family. Can anyone help, thank you.
