There are different levels of donation. Some people allow their body parts to be donated so they are kept permanently for study. Others are a temporary loan and will be returned to the family after a while. My daughter is doing human dissection and it is all done with the greatest respect. Her university has just held a memorial service for the donors, their families and the students involved. When bodies are to be returned every care is taken to be sure that all parts of an individual are kept together. The students don't discuss it much but I know it is all done as tastefully as possible and the students in my daughter's class are grateful for this amazing opportunity. In their case the bodies are being examined for 12 weeks. Sue |

Thanks for your replies. I thought that maybe once the body was donated for medical research that it would be the last you would hear about it. I had no idea that you could be contacted again. |

hi sue i dont know how long ago you are looking for but my dad left his body to medical science in 1993. we had a copy of the arrangement he had made with the royal university hospital in liverpool i dont have it know but my brother had it. after 18 months they contacted us and said they had finished with dads body and did we want it or they could arrange burial or cremation. we had our dad back and had a funeral 19 months after he died although his death cert gives the date of his death i dont think in years to come anyone would put the death and the burial dates together. this might not be of any use to you but just let you know about the burial thing love linda x |

The only thing I can think of is to start by contacting your local Health Authority, they might point you in the right direction Good Luck Ann |
