Hi Karen, I don't think she would not have an Australian Citizen because she was British. According to the Australian National Archives, prior to 26 January 1949, the process of naturalisation conferred British nationality on applicants. Residents of British (or naturalised British) status were therefore not required to seek naturalisation in order to become Australian citizens. As a consequence there are no naturalisation records for British migrants before 1949. So I checked the Australian National Archives website. It was about Group settlement–WA (Western Australia) from 1921 to 1934. It is possible. I will see how it goes. Thanks for your help. Regards, Steven. |

Steven Is there a possibility she became an Australian citizen and therefore made a naturalisation application (I don't know if this was required in 1924) - if this was the case would the Australian National Archives have any records? With kind regards Karen |

Steven This links to the Government site that gives the history off passports and it has an e.mail enquiry service (click on Contact Us) http://www.ukpa.gov.uk/textonly/english/t_history.asp But my gut feeling is that the information would be subject to the 100 year closure rule. Good luck Chris |

I am looking for a copy of my great grandmother Gertrude Rutherford's passport. She and her family were migrated to Australia in 1924. I am hoping that the passport would show where and what year she was born in England. Is it? I am trying to find her birth registration. She was fostered when she was around 1 year old. She was married to George Baker. I think her surname would be Allen when she was born around 1888. Where could I find the copy of her passport? I did with National Archives Kew website but it does not help me. Regards, Steven from Australia. |
