Bob - THANK YOU!! I've cracked it - or I should say you have! Part of the problem is a bi-lingual computer, or rather one that always uses the other language when you don't want it to - thus 'thumbnails' were masquerading as 'anteprima' and the penny has only just dropped!! Anyway, thank you again - it's going to be a very useful option. Hazel

Hazel it doesn't matter where they are. It will even resize images on USB sticks or memory cards! I have images on a second hard drive. Just click on 'view' on the folder (images or whatever) and select thumbnails. You can set thumbnails for all folders in My Computer / tools / folder options. Set the my computer folder view to thumbnails first then 'apply to all folders' under tools / folder options / view. Bob

Hi Bob, evidently the problem is that I don't have my pics saved in My Pictures but in an 'Images' folder on 'E' disk (my C is only 40 GB and I have 2 others of 160 GB each) as I needed to free up space on 'C'. Thus they no longer come up as thumbnails - quite a bore really - but I haven't looked into what I can do about it yet! Thanks anyway. Hazel

Hazel if you have installed it it doesn't operate as a separate program. It becomes part of windows XP. Go to a picture in my documents or my picture etc and right click on it. In the menu that comes up (fourth down on mine) it should have 'resize picture'. When you select this the box will appear. It places a resized copy of the picture in the same folder called 'image'small etc AcDsee will remain as your default editor Bob

Hi Bob - please help!! I have downloaded the Image Resizer as you suggested (and installed it) and now I can't find out how to use it! I have AcDsee as my default picture reading prog.- how would I persuade the pics to open in Windows? Hoping you can give me a tip! Thanks in advance! Hazel

In addition to Jennifers advice. Always turn inkjets off on the printer, not at the mains or on an extension strip. This allows the printer to clean the heads. This is easy to forget and can trash a printer (my cat keeps turning mine on) Bob

Barry, You said your printer would not print even after installing new inks, the problem lies with the fact that you had not used it for a year. You should print something regularly, at least once a week or the print heads get blocked. Hope this tip is helpful. Jennifer

I keep posting this Heather. Everyone should download it as it's a Microsoft add on and so useful and simple. You can choose a custom size under advanced. Leave 'resize original pictures' UNCHECKED (default) or you will lose resolution that can't be put back. (this leaves the original alone) Bob

There is a free website that will resize photos for you - I learnt about it and used it on the other site. I believe its actually called resize and is simple to use.

Yes Barry, that is very, very cheap, I think mine was about £80 and the ink cost £25 as there are few different cartridges in it, various colours. I hope when you get this new one you will be able to save the images to your pictures. Maybe there is another way to make g the images smaller but I am not great with computers. I find this the easy way to do it and also it saves all the pictures or images in you picture section so you can view them anytime. Good luck!! Betty

hi betty,i have a printer scanner copier thing but havent used it for 12mnths or so,put in new ink last week cos it wouldnt print but a waste of time,wont print but the scanner is ok,i was gonna get a cheap printer and keep this for scanning but my son saw a 3 in 1 for £30 on comp so ordered it,at that price its not much more than i pay for ink so could buy new printer when ink runs out instead of buying ink lol...Barry

Hi Barry, I think you should be able to do that with a new printer. I had a very cheap one for several years which I got free with the computer. It just printed thats all and I was still able to do that, send to pictures folder and then select the size for A4 paper with that very old printer. I now have a new printer/scanner/photocopier and I can also do the same thing with this. I have all my certificates BMD and census on My Pictures, I can then select them to just view and enlage them to view. I can also print them off, same as with old printer. Betty

hi betty,i am assuming they scan them onto comp to send thm to me,when my new printer comes tomoz or tuesday i hope it has this facility for a4 that yours has,it will make my life so much easier,incas you didnt guess i am a total computer illiterate or whatever the word is lol,thanks though....Barry

Hi Barry, I take it you scaned these pictures or certificates?? When I scan mine I always add the to My pictures and when i go to print them off the printer asks if you want them to fit on an A4 size paper and I always select this option. Betty

i have been asking around the family for old pics and copies of certs and most are fine but a few have turned into giant sized pics..i tried to print one off when i was at the library and got one little corner of the wedding cert on an a4 sheet,is there an easy way of making this go back to the size it was when it was scanned or to tell them how to scan them smaller or something,i have bought myself yet anothr printer this week and would like to print all i have so far if possible,thanks Barry
