Hi All, Jane gave me too possable entry's for a marriage of Edward Lee & Polly Wilson ?. The first entry was for Edward Lee marrying a Pearl A Wilson I know was wrong as I had already sen't for the certificate. I sent for the second Edward Lee marrying a Mary J Wilson sadly Edward Married the other lady named on the page. I have had a look at My great grandfather's funerial report and it say's granddaughter Violet Lee on it so I have had a look on Ancestry & I think i may have found a match. Violet F Lee, Birth July QTR 1912, mother's maiden name Wilson, Vol 1D, page 1692, District Camberwell. I am going to send for the certificate so keep your finger's crossed and I will keep you all posted Regards Priscilla

Hi Rose, Joseph was in the RAF Sadly He died somewere over Europe during the WW2. Edward was also in WW2 and was a prisoneer of war and help build the Burma Railway he did return home but later emmagrated to Canada. My Mum thinks he left England in the late 1940's or early 1950's but not sure where in Canada he want. With such little information I have not tried to search for a death entry for him if he were alive he would be in his 80s. We have a picture of my aunt who is 78 taken with Edward as children and i would say he is about four years older then her on the photo. When he came back from the war he worked on jet engines at Heathrow intill he left for Canada and thats about all i know Best Wishes Priscilla

Priscilla, Do you know when Edward or Joseph died? If you could find those it would help. Do you think Polly is the daughter of Joseph or is she not a blood relative at all? Rose

All bmd's are free on Ancestry..........register with the site, then look at the FULL records.........not the freebmd extracts, which are not complete. Use the following for births.......... http://content.ancestry(.)co.uk/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=8964&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0 For marriages.......... http://content.ancestry(.)co.uk/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=8965&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0 For deaths.............. http://content.ancestry(.)co.uk/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=8966&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0 Leave out the brackets, of course......... Priscilla has her born in 1890 in Borough. I assume this is the marriage: Marriages Dec 1895 (>99%) Miller Abby St.Saviour 1d 61 Wilson Joseph St. Saviour 1d 61 This fits in with the Abbey Miller 1891 who was the only one born in Mitcham. I don't see a Polly/Mary with her then. If you look at the image, it looks like a 5 or an 8 was originally written for her age. I wonder if one of these could be her birth? Births Mar 1893 Miller Mary Magdalen Lambeth 1d 529 Births Jun 1896 Wilson Mary Lambeth 1d 493 Not the first one because she dies. Deaths Mar 1893 Miller Mary Magdalen 0 Lambeth 1d 338 Rose

Reggie and Jane have got the best idea; I'd go with them. Otherwise, Polly was/is short for Pauline, Paula, Paulette etc. Also try various spellings ie Pollie. From Ask Jeeves: (First Name Origin and Meaning of Polly) Hebrew · Female Form of Molly. From Mary, the perfect one.

Your first priority is to find the correct version of her married surname.........look in the full bmd records - which are free on Ancestry - for the son's birth. Then you can search for her marriage, and find out her father's name from the cert........ Reg

I don't think 1901 census would have given her birthplace as Greater London..........that's a new-fangled description...... Is this perhaps the entry to which you refer? Name: Polly Wilson Age: 11 Estimated birth year: abt 1890 Relation: Daughter Father's name: James Mother's name: Abey Gender: Female Where born: Borough, London, England Civil parish: Cann Hall Ecclesiastical parish: Leytonstone St Margaret County/Island: Essex Country: England Registration district: West Ham Sub-registration district: South Leyton ED, institution, or vessel: 14 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 272 Household Members: Name Age Abey Wilson 27 b. if you are looking for th birth of her son ( Edward Joseph ) you can check the actual images of the BMD index. As you say the transcribed entries only go up to about 1910 but the images are free to search. It might be a bit of a trawl as you have to search each year Q by Q....Esta

Polly may well be a nickname. you can search Ancestry full BMDS for the sons ,their birth certs may give more clues.

Mary or Mary Ann is often used by people called Polly. My Mary was actually registered at birth as Polly but it is often the other way round.

Hi all, My mother had a aunt called Polly Wilson who married Edward (Lee) or (Leigh) in the early 1900's. My problem is that i cannot find a marriage entry for them. I know that when married they lived in sunbury middelsex i have tried the freebmd website their are lots of Edwards but none marrying a Polly. Polly was the oldest child and didn't share the same mother she was born in about 1890 and on her father's marriage certificate(1895) it stated that he was a batchelor. Family seem to think that she would have not been named Wilson on her birth Certificate of her father didn't marry her mother and that polly may have been a nickname. In the 1901 census she was liveing with her father his wife and younger siblings NAME POLLY WILSON BIRTH PLACE GREATER LONDON. I have applied for birth Certificates of Polly Wilson born Greater London around 1890 but none have been the correct one. I do know that she had 2 son's Edward Joseph born in the 1920's in middelsex. I cannot find a entry for there births as the online BMD's only go up to about 1910 to 1915 any ideas ?. PS I am off out now so i won't be able to reply intill later Many Thanks Priscilla
