Can anyone suggest any where to try - know for a fact my Grandfather Harold Thompson was born June 28 or 29, 1905 in England. Know who his parents were, know where he grew up, know who all his siblings were. Have tried EVERY GRO listing for q3 1905 all counties, no matches. His Canadian military records state born in Hampshire England. Figure no way was registered q2 as mother would have had to run to registry office within days of his birth. Have even had the GRO do a check for June 29, 1905 Hampshire - no reference number again no results. Sue |

Hi Sue, If i were you i'd try a few years either side of 1905. Sometimes people get the year wrong! Karen |

Thanks Karen, normally I agree but in this case my Grandfather was a major influence in my life until his death and I know 1905 was right. Of course everyone (including him) thought his birthday was June 28, until he got copy of his birth certificate to file for his pension and it stated June 29. Unfortunately this document has been lost over the years and I am trying to replace it. What is the time frame they had to register births at that time? Maybe just didn't register immediately? Sue |

Hi Susan, As you know the names of Harold's siblings and parents why not go for the certificate of one of the other children? Choose the one with the least common name. Regards, Peter |

Have you tried the local Register Office? Despite what the GRO say, they do NOT have 100% records - I have six certificates which do not appear in the GRO listings, but were nestling quietly in the local Register Office. OC |

Harold had no middle name - just my luck. His parents were Charles William and Mary Jane Thompson. From what I can find all siblings born different area's of Lincs. Have not been able to locate Charles & Mary Jane on 1901 census, so either they were away or just got missed somehow. I know Charles worked for a railway but no idea which one. So seem to have moved around a lot. Grandpa (Harold) was the youngest, next up was Effie May born 1902 (again can't find hers registered), Ethel 1900 Grimsby, Hilda Adelaide 1897 Grimsby, Albert 1895 Caistor, Mabel Annie 1894 Lincoln. Working on hint of Hampshire is there a main registry office for Hampshire that I can send request to even if don't know district? Thanks for all your help Sue |

Can you list the ages of Charles and Mary Jane when they married? Also their father's names and occupations. I don't see a birth for Ethel in Grimsby. Rose |

I have marriage cert & both birth certs for parents - Charles born 1869 Barnety, Mary Jane Richardson born 1869 Newball, married 1893 Stsinton. Even have marriage for both Charles & Mary Janes parents. My own grandfather is the most frustrating - know he did this on purpose. After all he always told us grandma & him came over behind the Mayflower.....in a row boat! lol and we believed him! Would it have been possible for his birth not to have been registered for a year or two? Sue |
