Mhairi Queen of Scots Report 23 Jan 2007 22:44

Your local LDS centre would be able to order in the micro fiche with the births/christenings on it and you would be able to print off from there. Mhairi

Leslie GR will not allow e-mail addresses to be put on the boards.........to pass such info, you have to leave out the 'at' sign, or disguise it. Alternatively, send the info via PM, by clicking on the name of the person to whom you wish to send the info. Reg

Linda, Why not try contacting the Local Studies Centre, Midlothian Library HQ, 2 Clerk St, Loanhead, Midlothian 0131 271 3976 or [email protected]. I am sure they would send you a photo copy of the OPR entry you want at a fraction of the cost of buying credits on scotlandspeople.. Les Harris

Hi Don't know if this is something completely different. There is a death of a William Lumsden Abbott aged 5 in Edinburgh in 1865. On the 1861 cenus he is shown as living in Edinburgh with his parents and sister. His father is William aged 33 which would make his date of birth 1828 but his place of birth is shown as Edinburgh.

Hi 1828? Civil Registration started in Scotland in 1855, so there will not be a birth certificate. There might be something in the Old Parish Registers (OPRs) but perhaps you should get that checked out on Scotlands people. Denis

Willow Report 23 Jan 2007 09:37

Hi Linda You wont get his birth certificate, civil registration never started in scotland until 1855, but you might get his baptism from the parish records. You can look at the entrys of old parish records online at scotlandspeople.gov.uk, you will need to register and buy credits. You can also view copies of birth certs from 1855 - 1906, marriage 1855- 1931 and death 1855 -1956.
